Manager, Product Stewardship & Regulatory Affairs (US-Canada)

FT Exempt Remote

SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of Azelis SHEQ/Product Stewardship & Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) for the applicable markets across the United States and Canada. Accountable for regulatory compliance, product stewardship, licensing and permitting, customer and supplier support, regulatory risk management, transpotation complaince, and development of the PSRA team. Ensure the transactions of business units comply with the applicable regulations in force and be kept current on changes to regulations or related information. Must maintain efficient teams by ensuring that employees demonstrate the skills and attitude required to perform their duties to adequately meet the needs of Azelis.  Communicate the needs of the SHEQ-PSRA team to the PSRA Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure the management of the PSRA department to maintain a healthy working environment and optimize the contribution of each employee in
  • Leading and developeming a high-performing PSRA team through coaching, mentoring, performance management, succession planning, and professional development
  • Establishing departmental goals, KPIs, service level expectations, and resource priorities aligned with business objectives
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to improve service quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency
  • Recruitment, hiring and integration of new employees
  • Applying management practices that create accountability for achieving objectives
  • Accompanying the team and fostering the development of employee skills
  • Supervising the day-to-day activities of the team, recognizing the good moves and addressing problem situations and performance gaps
  • Providing support to the team in problem solving
  • Optimizing work processes to ensure optimal internal efficiency
  • Managing daily operations of the SHEQ-PSRA team which includes
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments impacting business operations
  • Lead implementation of regulatory changes across affected markets and business units
  • Provide regulatory guidance to commercial, suppy chain, operations, and leadership teams
  • Assess regulatory risks associated with new products, suppliers, acquisitions, and market expansion initiatives
  • Represent Azelis during regulatory inspections, audits, and agency interations
  • Provide regulatory support to customers and suppliers regarding product compliance, registrations, certifications, ingredient acceptability, transportation classifications, and market access requirements
  • Support commercial growth through participation in customer meetings, supplier reviews, product evaluations, and new business opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation (product compliance and HSE regulations). 
  • Manage product document control of all regulatory and applicable documents on products.
  • Manage set up and compliance of items on local ERP (documents and regulatory alerts).
  • Oversee regulatory master data governance within ERP and related business systems, ensuring accuracy of classifications, documentaiton, hazard information, and compliance notifications
  • Manage compliance of Safety Data Sheets created by the Data Support Centre in India as necessary.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining any other applicable certification standards as necessary (ISO 14000, GMP, GMP+, RSPO, etc.) 
  • SHEQ-PSRA KPI implementation and management
  • Manage all internal and external non conformances with regards to off spec and quality complaints from customers
  • Establishing and communicating objectives for internal follow-ups
  • Maintain knowledge of the various regulations and training of employees on the regulations relevant to Azelis and relating to the performance of their work (i.e., TSCA, OSHA, EPA FIFRA, EPCRA, DOT, DEA, CEPA, WHMIS, TDG, PCPA, etc.)
  • Change control management on existing products/suppliers.
  • Review and approve quality agreements with suppliers, customers and logistics service providers.
  • Participate in management meetings of the business entities to ensure good communication across all market segments with regards to regulatory issues.
  • Maintaining permits, licenses, registrations, and certifications required to support operations throughout the United States and Canada (i.e., state chemical registrations, pesticide registrations, environmental permits, facility licenses, etc)
  • Ensure the visibility of Azelis in government committees, market and other associations to develop an efficient business network.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining excellent teamwork with all Azelis departments and other groups when applicable, proactively communicating and sharing best practices to increase the efficiency and consistency of the group
  • Contributing and collaborating in the development of computerized systems, evaluating any new functions that apply to SHEQ functions, to automate working methods, ensure compatibility and relevance, and identify issues before the implementation of the new functions.
  • Contribute to special projects by bringing expertise related to SHEQ to meet various business needs.
  • Continued development of expertise in relation to the regulations by maintaining current knowledge of the laws and regulations to provide updated information and respond quickly and accurately to customer requests, internal personnel and suppliers.
  • Providing internal support by carrying out any other responsibilities entrusted to them in order to enable Azelis to respect its service offer and/or to achieve its objectives.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Understand and adhere to/follow the department procedures and policies
  • Adhere to and support the principles of Responsible Distribution™.
  • Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

  • The incumbent must demonstrate independence in performing tasks and be proactive in developing and maintaining knowledge. The holder must demonstrate a good sense of analysis and judgment dealing with problematic situations and / or emergency and be able to propose solutions. It is expected that the incumbent follows established company policies and consult as needed a superior when problematic situations arise with potential impacts.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20-30% as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a chemical-related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as manager of a quality or regulatory department
  • Minimum 3+ years of people leadership experience preferred
  • Experience supporting chemical distribution, speciality chemicals, ingredients, or manufacturing environments strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of US/Canada regulations for chemicals an asset.
