Job OverviewLead Product Planning and Master Scheduling activities for Peoria Manufacturing Operations to develop and govern production plans that align customer demand, manufacturing capacity, material availability, inventory objectives, and business priorities. Own the master production and completion scheduling processes and provide planning leadership for product configuration, forecast accuracy, engineering change effectivity, new model and block change introductions, and bill of material governance.
Serve as the primary working-level Planning interface for the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process and partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, and other stakeholders to translate demand and product requirements into executable production and material plans. Drive planning decisions and changes through implementation while balancing customer requirements, production capability, material availability, inventory utilization, obsolescence risk, and cost.
Lead and develop assigned Product Planning personnel and establish effective processes, controls, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve planning accuracy, production-plan attainment, and overall planning performance.
Key Job ResponsibilitiesLead and manage Product Planning staff, overseeing performance, development, workload, and processes. Define clear roles separating decision-making from routine tasks. Implement improvements in processes, systems, automation, and reporting to boost planning accuracy and efficiency.
Oversee production, customized, and forecast bill-of-material structures and planning-related product configurations to ensure accurate manufacturing and material planning. Establish controls for creating and maintaining planning-related part and configuration structures, including SERV requirements, ensuring changes are reviewed before implementation. Maintain BOM integrity with Engineering, Purchasing, Operations, and other stakeholders.
Drive attainment of the approved production and shipment plan by identifying risks, coordinating corrective actions, and escalating unresolved issues. Oversee planning for shop follow-ups, rework, and post-schedule changes. Manage short-ship resolutions and assess equipment invoice readiness per criteria. Ensure projects close properly and investigate significant cost variances.
Act as the main Product Planning liaison with Sales and Commercial teams for the S&OP process.
Qualifications/Requirements1. Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience may be considered.
2. Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in manufacturing, product planning, production planning, engineering, supply chain, product management, or a related function.
3. Strong understanding of manufacturing planning principles, including material requirements planning (MRP), production scheduling, bills of material, inventory management, product configuration, and manufacturing processes.
4. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business and operational information, evaluate competing priorities and constraints, and make sound decisions considering customer, production, material, inventory, cost, and business impacts.
5. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive issues through resolution while working effectively with Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Commercial/Sales, Finance, and other functional stakeholders.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence decisions, challenge assumptions, communicate complex issues clearly, and escalate business risks appropriately.
7. Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to establish priorities, develop employees, manage performance, delegate work effectively, and build accountability within a team.
8. Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing data structures. Experience with SAP, BAAN, or comparable enterprise manufacturing systems preferred.
9. Strong analytical and computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and the ability to utilize data and reporting tools to measure planning performance, identify trends, and support decision-making.
10. Experience with master production scheduling, Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), forecasting, engineering change management, or product introduction processes preferred.
Additional InformationHiring Range At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $112,700 - $140,900. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
