Job Summary
- The Manager of Coding oversees the day-to-day operations of professional coding services to support organizational goals and ensure accurate coded data for appropriate reimbursement. The Manager is responsible for coding quality, productivity, compliance monitoring, staff development, and implementation of coding policies and procedures.
Essential Function
- Monitors coding operations to ensure productivity, accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of work.
- Identifies, analyzes, and resolves coding-related issues affecting reimbursement, compliance, or workflow efficiency.
- Audit completed charts and provide coaching, guidance, feedback, and development opportunities to coder.
- Provide education based on audit results.
- Assist team with daily coding functions to ensure team stays current with the workload.
- Reviews coding quality metrics and productivity data and develops action plans in collaboration with Director of Coding, Audit and Education, to address performance gaps.
- Collaborate with the Accounts Receivable teams to work on claim denials and rejections related to coding and medical necessity and implement corrective actions and educational initiatives as needed.
- Collaborates with revenue cycle, compliance, clinical, and operational leaders to support coding accuracy and reimbursement objectives.
- Supports coding standardization efforts to promote consistency in education, workflows, regulatory updates, and compliance practices.
- Collaborates with Director of Coding, Audit and Education, to analyze coding performance and benchmark data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential revenue impact.
- Ensures coding staff remain current on coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory changes.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectation
- Strong knowledge of coding principles, guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Strong knowledge of professional services reimbursement methodologies.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific regulations related to documentation, coding, and billing.

- Ability to build effective working relationships across departments.
- Ability to travel to market locations if needed.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or related field (Preferred)
Licenses/Certification
- Other: CPC certification Upon Hire (Required)
- Other: CPMA Upon Hire (Preferred)
Experience
- 5+ years Professional coding experience (Required)
- Prior Experience in leadership or a supervisory coding role (Preferred)
- Prior Experience supporting multi-specialty physician practices or medical groups (Preferred)
- Prior Experience working with operational leaders and providers to improve coding quality and performance (Preferred)
