Overview

Who we're looking for

Toyota's Payroll Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Payroll Operations Manager.

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure accurate, timely, compliant pay for 55,000 North American team members; leading a high-performing team of 8 team members.

Reporting to the Payroll Sr Manager, the person in this role will support the Payroll department's objective to deliver exceptional payroll services through operational excellence, compliance, innovation, and continuous improvement across North America.

What you'll be doing
• Lead and Develop Team Members

Coach, develop, and support payroll professionals while fostering a collaborative, customer-focused, and continuous improvement mindset. Help build team capability and create an environment where associates can thrive and deliver strong results.
• Lead Day-to-Day Payroll Operations

Manage the end-to-end execution of payroll operations for a large, complex workforce across the US and Canada. Help ensure payroll processing is accurate, timely, and aligned with business priorities and service expectations.
• Ensure Compliance and Operational Controls

Maintain payroll compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations, including wage and hour laws, payroll tax requirements, garnishments, and internal control standards. Support audit readiness and help ensure strong documentation, governance, and back-up procedures are in place.
• Manage Payroll Service Delivery, Escalations, and Partnerships

Oversee payroll inquiries, case management, and issue resolution while partnering with internal stakeholders and third-party providers. Address pay-impacting issues, identify root causes, monitor service levels, and coordinate secure, effective payroll processes that improve the team member experience.
• Drive Process Improvement and Operational Excellence

Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, standardize processes, and improve payroll accuracy and efficiency. Apply problem-solving, data insights, and continuous improvement principles to strengthen service delivery and reduce operational risk.

What you bring
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Progressive experience in payroll operations, time and labor, HR operations, or finance operations within a large, complex, multi-state and/or multi-country organization.
• 8+ years of experience leading payroll processing, compliance activities, and service delivery in a high-volume environment.
• Working knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, payroll taxation, garnishments, and related compliance requirements across the US and Canada.
• Experience working with payroll vendors, cross-functional stakeholders, and service delivery models in a shared services environment.
• 5+ years of experience with people leadership, including coaching, development, and performance management.
• Experience with enterprise payroll and workforce technologies such as UKG Pro, UKG Workforce Management, Workday or comparable solutions.
• Experience analyzing large data sets.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound operational decisions.
• Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across teams.

• Experience supporting large hourly populations and complex timekeeping environments.
• Experience using automation, analytics, AI, robotic process automation, or self-service capabilities to improve payroll operations and the team member experience.
