Full Job Description
SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Surgical Services, directs the daily activities of the Housekeeping Aides and OR Assistant staff in the Main OR, the Hasbro OR and the Ambulatory Surgical Center that will maintain and improve the workflow and environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees Group Leaders in OR Support Services who coordinate and supervise the activities of the Housekeeping Aides and OR Assistants. Assigns work to subordinates directly and through Group Leaders. Adjusts work schedules as necessary to provide coverage.
Works collaboratively with physicians, staff, peers and administration to continually update support system standards.
Recommends and assists with capital equipment, labor and expense budgets related to areas of responsibility and submits to the Director.
Develops employees to their fullest work potential by identifying educational opportunities and unit based growth experiences. Based on assessment, establishes and implements action plans to promote the ongoing development of staff competence.
Interviews applicants and selects new employees in conjuction with the Director. Coordinates the hiring process through Human Resources. Provides unit orientation and oversees training of new employees. Monitors and evaluates performance of employees. Counsels employees on performance issues in accordance with hospital policies. When appropriate, uses the progressive disciplinary process, up to and including termination. Maintains employee records such as attendance, weekly project reports and quality control.
Ensures staff meetings for the entire staff are held a minimum of 12 times per year. Schedules meetings at numerous times to ensure the greatest attendance inorder to ensure staff understands what's going on at RIH and within the operative arena. Provides updates on the progress and direction of the hospital and day-to-day operational issues impacting the work environment.
Prepares clear, well organized, complete and timely written communications. Interacts on all shifts with support services personnel. Participates actively in direct report meetings and the OR Committee. Disseminates information to staff. Uses verbal communication which is clear, concise and timely. Practices effective listening skills. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills. Provides feedback in a timely and constructive manner.
Develops time graphs that provide appropriate coverage and adheres to departmental and union contract guidelines for vacation, etc.
Coordinates or provides on-the-job training for proper work methods and use of equipment, communication, team building, etc.
In cooperation with clinical leadership at the Control Desk, coordinates staff assignments to optimize the daily workflow and to ensure rooms are terminally cleaned and prepared for first cases.
Inspects work of each subordinate several times per day for completeness and quality.
Consults with vendor representatives, oversees the testing and evaluation of new products, equipment and services, and recommends purchase to the Director. Recommends purchase of replacement items.
Assures that all equipment is properly maintained and in safe working condition. Ensures that supplies and products are properly utilized.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Institutional Management or the field of business or Health Care Administration to provide knowledge of management, record keeping, preparation of reports, etc. or equivalent experience.
Leadership and supervisory ability to direct activities of subordinate support personnel.
Interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with staff, physicians, patients, families and other members of the healthcare team.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures inorder to ensure proper cleaning of rooms, equipment and materials.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year experience in daily operational activities in a hospital environment.
At least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
Previous experience leading teams or as a preceptor for employee orientation.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continuous standing and walking, occasional lifting, climbing and pushing.
Works in the Operating Room area and is exposed to odors, bodily fluids, chemical fumes and infectious disease when supervising employees and inspecting areas. Risk is minimized through strict adherence to Hospital Infection Control guidelines and practices.
Frequent standing, walking, lifting and carrying in order to lead by example ensuring a smooth uninterrupted workflow, i.e., clean rooms and equipment, patient transports and maintaining stock and supplies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory responsibility for up to 37 to 43 FTE's.

Pay Range:
$82,284.80-$135,782.40
