Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Unit’s Health and Safety program and performance
  • Investigate incidents to identify causes and implement corrective actions
  • Track occupational health and safety data and maintain KPIs
  • Identify safety improvement opportunities and develop training accordingly
  • Collaborate with departments on Safety Improvement Plans and monitor progress
  • Chair JHSC meetings
  • Manage injury cases and create modified work plans with HR
  • Conduct and manage safety training programs for Unit personnel
  • Educate staff on safety requirements such as WHMIS and other regulations
  • Ensure completion of managers' safety-related activities
  • Establish and maintain Preventative Maintenance Programs for safety
  • Assess new equipment and processes for risk in relation to Job Hazard Analysis

Full Job Description

The Safety Manager will drive all safety and environmental related initiatives throughout the Unit ensuring all employees are provided the safest work environment achievable and maintaining Unit compliance with Company and customer and regulatory guidelines. This includes but is not limited to conducting needed and recurrent training to all personnel on required safety procedures and practices; ensuring workplace inspections are conducted as scheduled or required by law. Promote and foster accident prevention through continuous review of conditions and behaviors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Responsible for the Unit’s overall Health and Safety program and performance
•    Ensure all incidents are investigated to identify causes; work with stakeholders to agree on corrective actions; track corrective actions through to completion; monitor success
•    Track OHS data in a meaningful way (accidents, near misses, workplace inspection findings, days lost…); create and maintain KPIs
•    Use leading indicator data to proactively identify opportunities for improvement and to develop department-specific training to address those opportunities
•    Collaborate with departments on their Safety Improvement Plans; monitor progress throughout the year; adjust as required
•    Chair / Co-chair JHSC meetings
•    Manage injuries so that time loss is minimized; collaborate with stakeholders to create modified work plans; work closely with Human Resources to manage RTW programs
•    Manage safety training programs for Unit personnel. Track training and ensure material is current.
•    Communicate to and educate all levels of Unit personnel on mandated safety requirements such as WHMIS and other governmental environmental guidelines
•    Ensure that manager’s safety-related activities are completed, such as workplace inspections, corrective actions, and Safety Improvement Plan actions
•    Ensure Preventative Maintenance Programs, as they relate to safely using Kitchen machinery, vehicles, and equipment, are established, maintained, and sustained throughout the Unit.
•    Manage the Job Hazard Analysis system, including related training material; assess all new equipment and work processes for risk
•    Actively review, vet and implement safety and environmental programs as developed by corporate headquarters.
•    Must obtain and maintain level 2 first aid ticket
•    Strong leadership skills including the ability to influence others

Work Experience:

3-5 years prior experience as a Safety Manager/Supervisor in a Production environment

•    Experience managing CNESST claims, modified duties and RTW plans.
•    Solid understanding of WCB regulations, WHIMIS
•    Experience in a food manufacturing industry a plus

Communication Skills:

•    Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.
•    MS Word, Excel

Annual Salary range for the role is $80,000 to $85,000 gross CAD
