This position requires in-person collaboration up to five days a week. This arrangement is subject to change based on business requirements.
Reporting to the Director - Commercial, Capital & Operations Accounting, this role is accountable for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting processes for a dynamic portfolio of Flight Operations business units. This individual will also be responsible for the identification of accounting issues or required changes to accounting policies. Providing directions to a team of accountants, the Manager is responsible for day-to-day technical operations of the team and creating a high-performing, collaborative environment, based on open, honest feedback and personal development.
Responsibilities:- Lead and assess complex Operations accounting issues for various departments Crew, Fuel, Airports, and other operational departments
- Manage the month end close process to ensure a timely and accurate close, including journal entry review and account reconciliation review in accordance with internal policies and deadlines
- Partner with Operations departments to enhance operational processes to improve timeliness and accuracy of accounting
- Collaborate closely with FP&A teams in the development of monthly commentaries, following up on significant variances
- Assess and research implications of significant financial transactions
- Identify and manage process improvement opportunities across the portfolio, including system-related upgrades and enhancements
- Ensure compliance with CSOx controls, as well as internal and external audit requirements
- Review full-cycle accounting tasks and implement improvements that support timely and efficient reporting, forecasting, variance analysis and accounting processes
- Provide leadership to a team of accountants including on-the-job coaching, mentoring and providing strategic direction
- Address and respond to queries from auditors and internal reviewers, including quarterly and annual variance analyses
Qualifications:- Completion of a post-secondary education in Business Administration/Commerce (Accounting or Finance) is required
- Accounting designation required
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience working in general accounting, managing accounting close activities
- Demonstrated leadership experience, either by leading teams or special projects
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to set and meet deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Application Expertise: Excel, Hyperion, MS Office Suite, JDE / ERP experience
- Process Management Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
