Full Job Description
The Operating Room Manager serves as a collaborative member of the Perioperative Services leadership team, partnering with OR and perioperative leaders to support the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services. This role provides additional leadership capacity to support daily operations, staffing, patient throughput, resource management, surgeon relationships, block utilization, and ongoing performance improvement.

With a strong operational and ambulatory focus, this position will work alongside existing OR leadership to strengthen operational support, enhance coordination across surgical services, and help advance key departmental priorities. As surgical services continue to grow and evolve, this role will have a particular focus on supporting the continued development and expansion of ambulatory and outpatient surgical services while contributing to the overall success of the Operating Room.

Requirements:
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of five years of Operating Room (OR) experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of leadership experience in an ambulatory and/or outpatient surgical setting highly preferred.
  • Certification in perioperative nursing or area of practice preferred

Key Responsibilities
  • Support leadership and operational oversight for daily Operating Room activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care across inpatient, ambulatory, and outpatient surgical services.
  • Supports the continued growth and optimization of ambulatory and outpatient surgery, including workflow design, staffing models, patient throughput, resource utilization, and operational readiness.
  • Partners closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen relationships, address operational needs, and support an exceptional surgical experience.
  • Monitors and improves surgical throughput, including on-time starts, room utilization, turnover efficiency, case flow, and other key operational performance measures.
  • Partners with perioperative leadership and surgical teams to optimize block utilization, identify opportunities for improved access and efficiency, and support strategic growth of surgical services.
  • Uses operational and clinical data to identify trends, evaluate performance, anticipate needs, and implement improvements that enhance quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
  • Leads and participates in quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory readiness initiatives specific to the perioperative environment.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix based on surgical volume, case complexity, patient acuity, and operational needs while effectively managing productivity and labor resources.
  • Investigates and resolves patient, physician, and staff concerns in a timely and collaborative manner, identifying opportunities for process improvement when appropriate.
  • Promotes effective communication and collaboration across the perioperative continuum to ensure coordinated care and seamless transitions throughout the surgical experience.
  • Ensures departmental practices remain aligned with evidence-based perioperative standards, hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional practice standards.
  • Supports departmental goals, strategic initiatives, and growth opportunities while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, service, and continuous improvement.
