Job Summary

Responsible for the staffing and administration of a nursing unit or floor.

As a Manager at Owensboro Health, you lead daily operations and team performance within your assigned unit or department. You champion our Safety Culture and foster continuous improvement and Target Zero performance. You are responsible for implementing policies, managing workflows, and supporting staff development. You play a critical role in advancing patient safety, reducing harm, achieving departmental goals and promoting a just culture through hands-on leadership and proactive problem-solving.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures departmental compliance with regulatory and The Joint Commission requirements.
  • Assists with the hiring, training, directing, development, and evaluating of nursing staff.
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to insure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Monitors and adheres to annual hospital operating budget.
  • Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases, and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
  • Support shared governance to engage all nurses in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Empower all nurses to lead and take an active role in decision-making using the shared governance process.
  • Mentor/coach NUPIC chair to promote shared governance.

Ensure goals are established with effective monitoring and reporting to improve workforce safety and wellbeing. Promotes safe staffing, supports resilience, and ensures that every team member has the tools, training, and environment needed to perform at their best.

Position Requirements:

Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire
  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 45 days of employment in this position
