OverviewThe Manager of Charter Accounting will manage the end-to-end accounting process for the Charter line of business, ensuring accurate recognition of revenue in accordance with GAAP, booking month-end accruals, and reconciliation between the general ledger and the source system of record. This role involves regular reporting and analytics, reconciliations, and journal entries and other accounting functions as assigned. This role will report directly to the Controller and will collaborate closely with Corporate Accounting, Client Accounting, and Charter Sales.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties
Direct Costs
- Ensure owner paybacks are entered timely and accurately
- Apply operator invoices to prepayments
- Reconcile actual costs to quoted trip
Revenue Recognition
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, including:
- Five steps of revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Contract liabilities (ASC 606)
- Allowance for credit losses (ASC 326)
- Review classification of revenue in accordance with the Company’s lines of business
Accounts Receivable
- Review A/R aging.
- Estimate allowance for credit losses and write-off uncollected amounts
Reporting & Analytics
- Monitor and report on key metrics such as Days Sales Outstanding, aging, write-offs, and collection trends
- Provide monthly financial reporting for revenue, expenses, and margins
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiency improvements
- Implement best practices in accounting and financial operations
Internal Controls
- Prepare and review key internal control procedures
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Collaboration
- Partner with Corporate, Client, and Charter Accounting to ensure best practices, adherence to deadlines and data accuracy.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, finance, or related field
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years Revenue accounting related experience
- Previous experience in leadership or supervisory capacity
