Job Description

The Nursing Support Manager is a Registered Professional Nurse who acts as a clinical leader in the daily function of a unit and provides oversight of quality patient care delivery, in conjunction with, or in the absence of, a Department Director. In this role, the Nursing Support Manager plans, organizes, schedules, monitors and leads the work of individuals and groups to attain desired results. This position selects and develops staff to promote a healthy work environment. The Nursing Support Manager facilitates Centra's organizational and nursing strategic plan, maintains quality and safe patient care, promotes a service-oriented environment and functions within budgetary guidelines. The Nursing Support Manager integrates the tenets of the Professional Practice Model in the operations of their unit. The Nursing Support Manager's practice reflects the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Scope of Standards for Nurse Administrators and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia. The Nurse Manager maintains 24-hour accountability for their unit.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:
• Promotes and mentors others in the nursing process, coordination of care (including staffing and scheduling best practices) as well as in the use of current evidence-based practice interventions
• Provides leadership and support to his/her team which promotes excellence in nursing practice, patient outcomes and caregiver engagement and is accountable for performance results of the unit
• Provides on-call coverage during afterhours and weekends on a rotating basis.
• Meets deadlines for specific projects or standard work requirements
• Coordinates and facilitates interdepartmental patient care.
• Manages Human Resource functions including but not limited to scheduling, performance reviews, interviewing potential hires and disciplinary action
• Financial responsibility to include monitoring and actions related to meeting productivity and other budgetary targets.
• Regulatory compliance monitoring and actions to ensure survey readiness
• Compliance with self and team related to Centra policies and procedures
• Supports and encourages the professional development of self and team members
• Develops (with assistance from Department Director as applicable) and implements unit-based succession plans
• Ensures orientation and training needs of reports are completed
• Actively involved in recruitment and retention activities
• Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and colleagues - ability to provide meaningful service recovery as needed
• Addresses initiatives/actions that would improve flow and capacity processes for not only own unit but for all departments
• May assist with teaching skills that facilitate safe, quality patient care
• Regularly rounds on staff.
• Fosters teamwork within own team as well as with other units and recognizes staff for their successes
• Encourages and facilitates participation of unit-based staff on department and organization wide councils/committees with focused attention on own unit's professional governance representation
• Models and supports diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace
• Attends departmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned
• Monitors and replaces as necessary, unit equipment and supplies
• Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure regular communication with staff is occurring
• Maintains confidentiality in the management of patient/employee information
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of nurse-sensitive, quality and other unit-based quality indicators and can speak to team performance regarding these measures
• Maintains current competency in nursing specialty
• Escalates concerns to Department Director following chain of command
• Serves as a patient and staff advocate
• Other projects or duties as assigned by Department Director
• Collaborates with contingency labor vendor to support inpatient staffing needs
• Review and monitor incoming and outgoing contingency labor contracts and provides monthly updates to director.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate of School of Nursing
Must have BSN or BS and MSN
Work Experience:
Two (2) years of nursing experience
Previous Charge Nurse or other Leadership Experience
Licenses & Certifications:
Licensed as a RN in the state of Virginia (may hold a compact license)
Hold current AHA BLS cared
Within two (2) years of hire, will obtain certification in leadership or area of specialty

Salary Range: $93,920 - $150,272
