Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Resource and Development Manager (ME R&D) reports to and supports the Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager, who leads the OTECH Mechanical Engineering Department. This department includes Mechanical Engineers, Designers, Structural Analysts, and Manufacturing Engineers. The ME R&D Manager will oversee a team of approximately 12 direct reports and will be responsible for coordinating and tracking training across the entire department. Additional duties include managing and monitoring departmental work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Functionally manage approximately 12 ME department team members (P2 to P4 levels).
  • Support career development for engineers/designers in department including those reporting directly to you.
  • Lead ME Department hiring and resource allocation with support from the Talent Acquisition (TA) Department.
  • Regularly Interface with Portfolio Managers, Program Managers, IRAD Manager, Chief Engineers, Lead Engineers, and others to determine staffing needs for the ME Department and to stay current on staffing trends and needs
  • Develop, execute, and maintain departmental training programs and evaluate training effectiveness
  • Review progress and results of work performed by the team; prepare reports and communicate outcomes to leadership.
  • Hold team members accountable for delivering quality results and meeting expectations. Demonstrate ability to devise innovative solutions to problems when conventional solutions are insufficient.
  • Support occasional travel needs.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Essential
  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical or Ocean Engineering
  • 10+ years of practical experience supporting Mechanical Engineering tasking from an individual contributor role or an engineering management role.
  • 3+ years of engineering functional management experience
  • Experience supporting government programs.
  • Experience mentoring engineers.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering issues to team members and customers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in Engineering Management or related field
  • Experience fielding Ship Board systems.
  • Work experience with US Department of Defense.

The salary range for this position is $128,100 - $192,100
