This posting is to fill one permanent, fulltime position, working 75 hours biweekly.

The Labour Relations branch provides labour relations leadership and expertise for the development and administration of employee relations for the Yukon government, manages the collective bargaining processes and supports departments in employee relations matters.

The Manager, Labour Relations is responsible for managing the operations of the Labour Relations branch by providing advice, guidance and support to Labour Relations Advisors and the Labour Relations Assistant, as well as providing support to the Director of Labour Relations.

The position oversees the advisory and case-management services that the branch provides to all Yukon government departments and corporations. The position assigns and manages staff workloads providing quality assurance and ensures that client needs are met by staff in a timely manner. The position is also responsible for taking carriage of cases that are significantly complex and/or political. The position oversees and participates in the interpretation of employment legislation, collective agreements and employment policies, as well as the resolution of grievances, human rights complaints and employment-related litigation.

  • Considerable experience in delivering strategic labour relations services within a unionized environment, such as development of strategy to improve union relations, application of evolving case law to operational practices;
  • Considerable experience briefing senior leadership on complex or politically sensitive labour issues; and
  • Considerable experience managing available resources to implement integrated solutions and strategies.
