We are seeking a Manager, Investment Operation (Private Markets) for our Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Operations, the Manager, Investment Operations (Private Markets) is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all investment transactions, accounting and monitoring of CAAT’s externally managed private markets portfolio – including private equity, real estate, infrastructure and private credit investments.
The successful incumbent will help lead the governance and operational control framework supporting CAAT’s private markets portfolio, with a focus on operational efficiency, data integrity, and effective risk management across the function.
As the Newest Member of our Team, You’ll:
Oversee day-to-day private markets operations, including capital calls, distributions processing and maintenance of all data within portfolio accounting system (eFront) used for reporting purposes.
Lead the monthly and quarterly close for the portfolio, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and appropriate supporting documentation for all private holdings.
Review and challenge GP valuations and NAVs; prepare supporting analysis and recommendations for the internal valuation governance process and Level 3 reporting.
Oversee the calculation and review of management fee and carried interest accruals across the private markets portfolio to ensure accuracy.
Manage the working relationships with Investments team, GPs, fund administrators, and the custodians on operational and accounting matters.
Partner with the Operational Due Diligence and Investment teams on the onboarding of new private market investments, including account openings, KYC/FATCA/CRS documentation, and data requirements.
Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, controls and governance documentation for the private markets operations function.
Identify and lead process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance scalability, data integrity, and control effectiveness.
Coach, mentor, and develop junior team members, supporting the broader team culture.
To Succeed, You Bring:
A minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of progressive experience in investment accounting, investment operations, or middle/back-office functions supporting private markets portfolios at a pension plan, institutional asset manager, custodian, or professional services firm.
University degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; a professional designation (CPA, CFA, CBV, or CAIA) is strongly preferred.
A deep understanding of private markets instruments, fund structures, and accepted valuation methodologies, combined with hands-on experience supporting transaction operations for an investment portfolio.
Ability to critically assess and challenge GP NAVs and valuation marks, and to prepare defensible supporting analysis for internal valuation governance and audit.
Working knowledge of fund waterfalls, carried interest, and management fee calculations, including side letters and preferred return mechanics.
Prior experience coaching, mentoring, and providing direct review of junior staff, including direct people-management experience, with the ability to lead and motivate a team, develop talent, and drive results.
Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver under multiple competing priorities; exceptional problem-solving and sound decision-making practices; strong operational risk awareness with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and strengthen internal controls and processes.
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to build and foster relationships with key stakeholders; interest in exploring new technologies and leveraging AI, automation, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
The target hiring salary for this position is $125,800 - $157, 200. Placement within our salary range will be based on factors such as internal equity, market conditions, and the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
