Overview

The Safety Manager II is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the MIC Safety Program demonstrating management skills and the ability to manage all aspects of a project safety program. May be the lead safety manager on a project and will report directly to the EHS Sr. Leadership or a Group/Senior Safety Manager. Will demonstrate skills of a Safety Manager I, with progressively increasing responsibility and authority.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Work as a leader in the job site safety department, functioning under the authority and direction of the EHS Leadership and directly supervise Safety Manager I's and Safety Coordinators and Specialists.
  • Daily, set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of MIC resources, support MIC beliefs, function as a team player and help maintain trust and communication
  • Conduct workplace safety checks and take all necessary corrective action to assist in elimination of hazards
  • Document actions on daily activity report
  • Complete the required number of site safety inspections (Safety Professional Checks) as directed.
  • Execute the MIC Safety Program in its entirety as directed as evidenced by Project safety scorecards.
  • Implement the Zero Injury System of safety excellence and R4 Program on the projects and monitor results
  • Assist in writing, organizing and implementing jobsite safety plans
  • Review Pre-Task Plans and provide feedback to assure continuous improvement
  • Work directly with the Site Production Manager and the management team to develop and implement and maintain an effective site-specific safety & environmental plan
  • Manage the MIC injury management program. Set up a working relationship with a local physician, explaining the MIC philosophy of managing accidents
  • Coordinate and present safety training to support MIC and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation to include New Hire Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory, and other accident prevention programs as appropriate
  • Attend and participate in weekly general safety meeting, weekly supervisor's safety meeting, and PODs
  • Participate in and monitor the jobsite R4 Safety Committee
  • Ensure the creation of incident reports and Lessons Learned documents and assuring quality and accuracy
  • Leading incident investigations to identify causal and contributing factors and finally root causes. Assuring corrective actions are identified and reporting progress to completion.
  • Maintain relations between MIC and clients regarding safety matters through effective communication
  • Participate in site inspections and testing as necessary for required permits, including programs such as: confined space, hot work, trenching, etc.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OSHA/MSHA reporting requirements, and other applicable matters
  • Administer drug and alcohol policy on site which includes specimen collection
  • Maintain jobsite first aid and emergency response supplies
  • Create notices of noncompliance for MIC employees and subcontractors
  • Understand all environmental permitting regulations and measures to ensure compliance


SUPERVISORY:
  • The ability to lead, manager and mentor one or more Safety Manager I

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of construction experience managing safety and have demonstrated the ability to provide a high level of safety leadership to both management and craft workers
  • Associates/Bachelor's degree and CHST or other BCSP certification is preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Functional computer skills and knowledge of the MS word, PPT and excel
  • Able to make power point presentations and spreadsheets as required to manage the safety program
  • Write reports with reasonable accuracy and appropriate grammar
  • Communication and report writing
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of a safety program on highly complex field projects, demonstrating exceptional management and leadership abilities
  • Knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Certification as an OSHA, MSHA and First Aid instructor is preferred
  • Other may duties may be assigned
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of their team and your supervisor.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Keep good balance and work at heights.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).

  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.


HOURS:

This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
