HRIS & Payroll Manager

Position Summary

The HRIS & Payroll Manager leads end-to-end payroll operations and administration of the HRIS platform, ensuring accurate payroll processing, data integrity, and system optimization. This role partners closely with HR, Benefits, Finance, IT, and Payroll to align processes across the employee lifecycle. The position also drives process improvements, delivers reporting and insights to support decision-making, and leads a high-performing team responsible for payroll and HRIS operations.

What You Will Be Doing

Payroll Operations
  • Lead payroll operations for approximately 2,700 employees across 30 states, supporting multiple pay groups with bi-weekly payroll cycles
  • Manage and coordinate payroll staff, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Review personnel records to validate pay rates, job changes, and payroll-impacting updates
  • Direct payroll calculations in alignment with company policies
  • Oversee payroll processing, including timecards, accruals, payroll calculations, and reporting
  • Review and approve payroll deductions and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
  • Partner with HR, HRIS, IT, and Finance to ensure accurate processing of benefits and retirement deductions
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax, wage and hour regulations, garnishments, and year-end processes including W-2s

HRIS Leadership & Data Governance
  • Serve as functional owner of the HRIS platform, preferably Workday, ensuring system performance, data accuracy, and integrity
  • Oversee HRIS administration, including configuration, data management, and system optimization
  • Establish data governance standards, including audits, controls, and standardized processes
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure alignment across all employee lifecycle events such as hires, job changes, leaves, and terminations
  • Lead testing, validation, and implementation of system updates, integrations, and enhancements
  • Align HRIS data with payroll outputs to minimize discrepancies and rework

Reporting & Analytics
  • Generate and analyze payroll and HRIS reports to ensure accuracy and support business decisions
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to provide visibility into workforce data, payroll trends, and key metrics

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
  • Develop and implement procedures to monitor workflow, track progress, and improve efficiency
  • Analyze payroll data for accuracy prior to final processing
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including automation and workflow standardization
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to improve system integrations and optimize payroll and HRIS processes

Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop payroll and HRIS team members
  • Assign and review work, manage performance, and support employee development
  • Establish clear accountability across payroll and HRIS functions
  • Manage priorities, escalations, and service delivery standards

Compliance
  • Maintain payroll and HRIS internal controls and ensure audit readiness
  • Support internal and external audits through data validation and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and data governance requirements
