Full Job Description
What this role is all about

The Manager is responsible for supervising the timely preparation of accurate balance sheet, income statements, forecasts and budgets for an assigned portfolio of limited service, extended stay and select full-service hotels. This position will oversee the work and approve journal entries prepared by a Senior Analyst while mentoring them on soft skills and how to resolve complex accounting and finance related inquiries and issues. This position will own the analytical review and property relationships for a portfolio of hotels.

This is a hybrid role, with 3 days in our Newton, MA or Orlando, FL office and 2 days working remotely.

What you'll be doing

Primary Responsibilities:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Accounting:
  • Provide oversight of the daily review of revenue reconciliation between the hotel PMS trial balance and the amounts in the financial system, and approve the respective revenue income journal entries in the General Ledger (GL)
  • Responsible for the timely issuance of complete and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual hotel financial statements with the assistance of a Senior Analyst
  • Approve journal postings in the GL prepared by a Senior Analyst to ensure they follow accurate GAAP and USALI guidelines
  • Conduct monthly P&L reviews with hotel teams as well as assist with monthly commentary regarding variances, having sufficient understanding to explain complex accounting scenarios to Operations personnel
  • Review balance sheet reconciliation workpapers prepared by a Senior Analyst for accuracy in support and reconciliation along with reviewing aged items for proper procedures
  • Prepare month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements with assistance from a Senior Analyst


Finance:
  • Prepare accurate forecasts, commentary and budgets with support from hotel onsite leadership team
  • Oversee and prepare specific variance reports to provide understanding of revenue or expense opportunities
  • Support the Hotel Finance & Accounting leadership team with financial audit activities as necessary
  • Work with the Hotel Finance & Accounting leadership team to implement and monitor controls and procedures related to period-end adjustments, financial reporting, etc.


Business Partnering:
  • Own and foster relationships with hotel personnel, while demonstrating expertise in investigating any material variances identified through monthly analysis, as well as assist with the explanation of accounting principles
  • Drive meetings as the subject matter expert (SME) with onsite hotel personnel to review checkbooks, labor standards, PO production and applicable P&L, forecast or budget related items
  • Support and mentor a Senior Analyst with development of professional and technical skills related to day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities. Perform and manage additional special projects as needed.


Travel:
  • This role requires 20% travel.


Key Competencies Required:
  • Work Experience:
    • 5+ years of directly related experience working for hotels in a similar capacity
    • 3+ years in a shared service setting supporting 7+ properties/entities
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required
    • Preferred: Masters degree
    • P&L analytical experience required
    • Full cycle accounting experience required
    • Forecast or other finance related activities preferred
    • 2+ years prior experience leading a team
    • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with ability to research and recommend appropriate actions on complex scenarios
    • Strong knowledge of Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI) standards required
    • Perform work in a well-organized, self-directed manner with ability to solve complex problems
    • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks, work both independently and in a team environment, and grasp concepts quickly
    • Ability to maintain strict adherence to confidentiality requirements
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail


  • Systems Experience:
    • Experience with accounting systems such as Sage, M3, MS Dynamics, Oracle, Workday or relevant system required
    • Experience in Opera PMS platform or similar
    • Strong data entry skills
    • Proven ability to work with complex Excel spreadsheets


  • Management Experience:
    • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and planning skills
    • Prior experience leading, coaching and driving a successful team
    • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner
    • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions and employee needs to meet deadlines

Must be adaptable and lead in an environment of constant change

Anticipated Pay Range & Additional Job Information

Pay Range: $100,000 to $120,000. Base pay offer may vary depending on various factors, including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills and job specific overall experience.
