Overview

The Manager of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of enterprise-wide Health Information Management functions related to Release of Information (ROI), medical record integrity, patient identity management, chart correction processes, record completion, and regulatory compliance. This leader ensures the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, accessibility, and legal compliance of the electronic health record (EHR) across all UF Health hospitals, physician practices, and affiliated entities. The Manager leads a team responsible for medical record stewardship, patient identity maintenance, chart correction workflows, information disclosure activities, physician documentation completion, and compliance with federal and state regulations governing health information. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, legal, compliance, privacy, revenue cycle, Epic, and quality teams to establish standardized enterprise processes that support patient safety, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in health information management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

Experience
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive healthcare hospital HIM experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience managing hospital HIM, release of information, or health record operations.
  • Experience with Release of Information, chart correction, medical record integrity, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Experience with an integrated healthcare delivery system, academic medical center, or multi-hospital environment.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR), Epic required.

License/Certification/Registration
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required (minimum)
  • Lean, Six-Sigma or process improvement methodologies preferred.
  • Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP) preferred.
  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) preferred.

Other Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare regulatory and privacy requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of HIM operations and medical record governance.
  • Advanced understanding of HIPAA, privacy regulations, and healthcare information disclosure requirements.
