Job Description

Position Overview
As Manager, HV Maintenance, you will lead high-voltage maintenance strategy and execution across substations and collection systems at Wind, Solar, and Storage facilities. This role supervises planned substation maintenance, supports forced outage restoration and troubleshooting, and will help to develop the execution model for a HV/MV technician team, including planning, mobilization, safety expectations, work scope, and day-to-day oversight.

You will oversee safety, work planning, scheduling, quality, documentation, contractor coordination, and cross-functional support to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of site electrical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee planned substation maintenance activities performed by contractors and/or in-house technicians, ensuring safe, high-quality execution and proper documentation.
  • Build and lead an in-house HV/MV technician team responsible for selected inspections, testing, repairs, troubleshooting, planned maintenance, corrective maintenance, and forced outage support across renewable sites.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and develop HV/MV technicians while establishing the team structure, qualification expectations, tooling, safety practices, and performance standards required to execute work safely and consistently.
  • Manage technician scheduling, callouts, forced outage response, workload balancing, and resource prioritization across projects and operating sites.
  • Develop the execution model for transitioning selected MV/HV maintenance scopes from contractor support to in-house performance where safe, cost-effective, and operationally practical.
  • Develop technical procedures to support the in-house testing, maintenance,  and repair of MV/HV equipment.
  • Manage budgets and expenses, ensuring cost-effective use of labor, equipment, contractors, tools, and company resources.
  • Provide advanced technical guidance on HV/MV transformers, collection systems, underground cable faults, and substation equipment.
  • Review test results, switching plans, LOTO plans, outage coordination activities, and maintenance documentation for quality, completeness, and technical accuracy.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, including NFPA 70E, OSHA standards, IEEE safety guidelines, and NETA safety procedures, fostering a culture of safety excellence.
  • Maintain accurate records for planned and corrective maintenance, including work orders, maintenance logs, test reports, switching activities, open-item tracking, and site reports. Generate clear summaries for Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, Compliance, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the Operations Electrical Engineering team with open maintenance items, projects, equipment troubleshooting, and special projects.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the industry. Minimum 4 years of high voltage electrical testing, substation maintenance, or HV/MV field service.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or guiding MV/HV testing and/or maintenance activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety requirements, grounding practices, and HV/MV LOTO procedure implementation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to Travel up to 25% of the time
  • Eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.


Preferred Skills

  • Technical Degree
  • Experience building or managing a planned maintenance program, including annual maintenance planning, CMMS/work order management, contractor scheduling, outage coordination, documentation review, and open-item tracking.
  • NETA Level 3 or Level 4 Certification, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with renewable generation facility HV BOP systems (wind, solar, BESS) or utility grade substation maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving abilities; adaptable to changing priorities and emergent HV issues.
  • Proficient in performing advanced electrical testing on transformers (Power Factor, TTR, winding resistance, excitation, and DGA analysis), and medium voltage cable testing (VLF, TDR, fault location)
  • Knowledgeable about testing on SF6 and vacuum breakers (insulation resistance, timing, minimum pickup, contact resistance), potential/voltage and current transformers (TTR, excitation, polarity, dielectric withstand, burden tests), air switches, switchgear/switchboards (ATS functionality, breaker testing, torque verification), metering and relaying (event file analysis, basic meter testing), SCADA/control systems (basic networking and subsystem knowledge), and thermography (IR scan surveys and interpretation)

Base Pay

$105,000.00 - $140,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 10% - 40%
