What You Will Do:

As the Manager, Gas Supply & Planning, you will play an essential role within our Operations & Engineering Services business unit, reporting to the Director, Engineering & Construction Services. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Managing the Gas Supply Function and Gas Management Contracting By:

    • Ensuring the appropriate gas contracts and contract terms and conditions are in place to meet peak demand periods;
    • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate gas contracts are in place;
    • Managing gas supply contracts to support day-to-day operation of the company, inclusive of providing support for gas supply issues as they arise;
    • Managing gas management contractors and related contracts;
    • Facilitating timely responses to gas supply requests for system growth;
    • Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers;
    • Leading the management and reporting of unaccounted for gas (UFG);
    • Representing the organization at appropriate committees related to gas supply (e.g. Tolls, Tariff, Facilities & Procedures (TTFP) Committee);
    • Recommending solutions to resolve current operating problems and procedural changes related to gas supply and management to improve efficiency; and
    • providing information for budgeting and cost control processes.


Manage the System Planning Activities By:

    • Leading the planning of the natural gas system to maintain system reliability and ensure compliance with internal guidelines and external regulatory requirements;
    • Providing guidance and maintaining compliance with all applicable codes and standards governing AUI pipeline systems;
    • Reviewing long-term system planning studies of the natural gas system and recommending/approving potential modifications to improve efficiency and safety or increase capacity;
    • Managing the development of procedures for the analysis of existing systems and design of new systems, consistent with sound engineering practices;
    • Managing System Integrity processes and controls;
    • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate planning activities support the overall organization goals including the optimization of the capital and operational execution;
    • Working with the Manager, Engineering to review existing AUI technical standards, providing input into necessary modifications and providing approvals on new standards for the Standard Practice Manual;
    • Supporting Capital program execution and assisting with the preparation of Regulatory filings as required.

What You Will Bring:

Required qualifications:

  • University Degree in Engineering or relevant discipline;
  • Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer;
  • More than ten (10) years in the utility industry;
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License. An acceptable driver's abstract is also required for this position.


Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Intermediate MS 365 Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook);
  • Proficiency in GIS Applications, Maximo, and SynerGEE would be an asset;
  • Technical Understanding of the Natural Gas Distribution Business would be an asset;
  • Experience in commercial agreement negotiations;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; and
  • Good understanding of the Alberta gas utility industry, natural gas regulatory framework and construction processes.
