Manager, Natrium Fuel Handling Systems

The Manager, Natrium Fuel Handling Systems role is responsible for the engineering and delivery of systems and components for Natrium Reactor Plants. This position serves as the system lead and design authority for the Ex-Vessel Fuel Handling System - you will be responsible for the design and delivery of fuel handling machines, hot cells, and specialty casks. The role functions as the manager of people for a multidisciplinary design engineering team of TerraPower employees and also oversees subcontracted resources and suppliers. The Manager, Natrium Fuel Handling Systems role reports to the Senior Manager of Fuel Handling Systems, and works closely with project management, adjacent engineering teams, supplier parters, and support organizations to deliver safely operating systems and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Review and approve engineering design documentation
  • Ensure design configuration and interfaces are controlled
  • Ensure engineering work is performed in accordance with all quality, technical, and procedural requirements
  • Oversee supplier/partner/vendor technical work
  • Identify technical and project risks associated with design and operation of cognizant systems
  • Demonstrate and exemplify visible, continuous leadership in the areas of safety, quality, and technical excellence
  • Develop staffing plans
  • Hire, train, and develop personnel
  • Assign technical work in accordance with project schedule, resource availability, and budget
  • Monitor team performance to support schedule and budget targets
  • Develop the technical work scope and estimates for design and delivery activities
  • Support Project Management in the development and maintenance of the project schedule
  • Interface with key organizations and programs for technical and project management purposes: Plant Design Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Operations, Quality Assurance, Testing, interfacing systems, Nuclear Licensing, Licensing Modernization Project, Materials and Chemistry, Engineering Analysis, Nuclear Design

Key Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Systems, Civil or similar)
  • 10+ years experience with design and/or engineering management of system and/or component design. Prior management or technical leadership experience is a plus.
  • Experience with the preparation and approval of specifications, calculations, drawings/diagrams and other design documentation is required
  • Experience within the nuclear or energy sectors is preferred
  • Experience working to quality standards, especially ASME NQA-1
  • Experience designing or overseeing one or more of the following types of systems and equipment: nuclear cranes and hoists, below-the-hook lifting devices, storage and transportation casks, cask transporters, hot cell design, hot cell equipment and process design
  • Experience with any of the following design codes is a plus: ASME BPVC Section III and/or Section VIII, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME NOG-1, ASME NUM-1, ASME BTH-1, ASME AG-1, ANSI/AISC N690
  • Ability to manage numerous competing priorities concurrently during a given work week and work with minimal direction to solve multi-disciplinary problems.

Job details

Salary Range: $168,316 - $252,475

Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
