Full Job Description
National Grid is hiring a Manager for Damage Prevention in our Downstate New York territory. The fully onsite is 100% for this role which can be located at the following location(s): Melville, NY or Brooklyn, NY.

Job Purpose

The role holder is responsible for operations personnel and contractors to accomplish job tasks effectively and efficiently in line with departmental and National Grid requirements. At the higher levels, this role will translate functional policy by managing day-to-day operations to drive greater efficiency and performance within their own team and National Grid.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead Damage Prevention activities in Downstate, including daily oversight of Damage Prevention Supervisors, Inspectors and Contractor locate and mark out operations.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with Company standards and NYS Code Rule 753.
  • Monitor all first, second, and third-party damage investigations and ensure timely, accurate, and complete damage investigation reports.
  • Monitor performance and reporting of all contractor activities including the quality assurance across all programs of work.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, Local, and Company safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with New York 811 Regional Partner meetings and Public Service Commission staff as required.
  • Monitor systematic field audits to verify locate accuracy, mark completeness, and contractor compliance.
  • Strategize with contracted DP Advisor staff and Ticket Risk Assessment programs to prioritize and visit the highest risk 811 tickets.
  • Apply analytical insights to prioritize field resources, guide intervention strategies, and reduce repeat and preventable damages.
  • Partner with Damage Prevention analytics and reporting teams to validate field data and ensure investigation outcomes are accurately reflected in enterprise reporting.
  • Translate complex data and trends into clear, actionable guidance for leadership, field teams, and cross-functional partners.
  • Motivate, coach, challenge and provide continual developmental opportunities for the workforce.
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with bargaining units and contractors.
  • Maintain industry involvement to keep abreast of changing technologies and best practices.
  • Develop continuous improvement initiatives in support of the Company's strategic objectives.
  • Monitor to ensure compliance with all contractor OQ programs and reporting.
  • Lead employees to meet KPI metrics, ensure regulatory compliance, and communicate high level issues to executive lists.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or five years equivalent job-related experience in a related area.
  • Technically proficient within subject matter or demonstrated ability to learn the business.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area or demonstrate the ability to be able to become proficient.
  • Exhibit the ability to develop a strong knowledge and understanding of National Grid's policies and processes and how to apply them effectively.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Downstate NY Salary: $178,000 - $206,000 a year
