Job Title: Manager, Financial Reporting

Position Summary: The Manager, Financial Reporting serves as both a people leader and subject matter expert, providing day-to-day leadership to direct and dotted line team members while maintaining direct responsibility for complex financial reporting, technical accounting research, regulatory filings, financial analysis, and audit support activities. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of financial and regulatory reporting, maintaining compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvement in reporting processes, controls, and systems. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and a collaborative leadership style that supports both team development and operational execution.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the accurate preparation and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including internal and external reporting packages, quarterly earnings release materials, and bank-required GAAP financial statements supporting both consolidated and standalone entities
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of regulatory reports, including FERC Form 1, FERC Form 3-Q, and other required regulatory submissions, ensuring compliance with applicable utility industry regulations.
  • Coordinate and support external, regulatory, and internal audits, including GAAP financial statements, employee benefit plans, and regulatory filings; partner with auditors and internal stakeholders to facilitate requests, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Lead technical accounting, and research related to changing accounting standards, regulatory compliance standards, complex transactions, tariff revisions, rate case settlements, new accounting pronouncements, and other emerging issues; prepare accounting documents and recommendations as needed.
  • Collaborate with management and accounting subject matter experts to evaluate the accounting and reporting implications of complex transactions and new accounting guidance and communicate impacts to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain expertise in utility accounting and regulatory matters, including rate base accounting, utility tariffs, and energy cost recovery mechanisms. Provide analysis of utility-specific financial and operational metrics, including cost of power, rate structures, and regulatory impacts.
  • Oversee and prepare compliance calculations, supporting documentation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies to support compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide insights on trends, risks, and opportunities to support strategic decision-making by leadership and operational teams.
  • Develop financial models and forecasts related to revenue, expenses, capital expenditures, and regulatory accounts.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of financial analysts and reporting professionals, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented culture.
  • Provide training and guidance on accounting policies, financial reporting requirements, procedures, controls, and system utilization.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and reporting enhancements that improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
  • Partner with Information Technology and cross-functional teams to enhance reporting systems, strengthen data quality, and improve reporting capabilities and timelines.

Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • Seven or more (7+) years of relevant experience in financial reporting.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is preferred.
  • At least two (2+) years of management experience preferred.
  • Experience working in utility sector or regulated environment is highly preferred.


Skills/Abilities:
  • Advanced proficiency with financial reporting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively present financial data to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements within the utility industry.

Scope

Primary focus is on day to day management of operational execution. Also develops and exercises business plans, policies, and procedures. Contributes to proactive planning exercises of management team as requested. Trains and develops staff. Plans the work flow. Looks for areas of process improvement and directs available resources to accomplish this. Leads changes and implementations for direct team as pushed down through the organization.

Decision Impact

Resolves problems of a greater complexity than the Supervisor level. Improves existing processes and systems using conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation skills. Solutions require thorough understanding of business strategies and issues. Defines broad based solutions that would require consideration of wider implications on organization results & resources.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
