Manager, Finance

Mount Carmel College of Nursing

Position Purpose

The Manager, Finance for Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN) serves as the senior financial leader for the College, providing strategic oversight of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, business intelligence, student financial services, and operational performance management. This role partners closely with College leadership, Mount Carmel Health System Finance, and Trinity Health stakeholders to support sound financial stewardship, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and long-term organizational success.

The Manager, Finance is responsible for translating complex financial and operational data into actionable insights, leading process improvement initiatives, overseeing business office operations, and ensuring the integrity of financial and student account information while supporting the College's mission of educating future healthcare professionals.

Essential Responsibilities
Financial Leadership

• Lead the College's budgeting, forecasting, and performance management processes.
• Develop and communicate financial analyses, forecasts, and recommendations to support strategic and operational decision-making.
• Monitor financial performance, identify trends and improvement opportunities, and develop action plans to optimize results.
• Oversee month-end close activities, annual audits, regulatory reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Ensure effective stewardship of departmental and institutional financial resources.
• Partner with College and Health System leadership to support strategic initiatives and organizational goals.

Student Financial Services & Business Operations

• Provide oversight of student financial services, including cashiering, accounts receivable, student billing, collections, payment processing, refunds, and institutional loan administration.
• Ensure accurate assessment and collection of tuition, fees, and other student-related revenues.
• Oversee compliance with applicable regulations related to student accounts, institutional loans, IRS Form 1098-T reporting, and related financial requirements.
• Collaborate with Financial Aid, Registrar, Enrollment Services, and other College departments to support effective student financial processes and customer service.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure the accuracy and integrity of student financial records.

Analytics, Reporting & Process Improvement

• Lead the development and enhancement of financial reports, dashboards, forecasting tools, and business intelligence resources.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across financial and operational systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, automate reporting, and increase operational efficiency.
• Partner with Information Technology and organizational leaders to support system enhancements, implementations, and reporting initiatives.
• Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support resource planning and decision-making.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop Finance and Business Office staff.
• Establish departmental goals, monitor performance, and promote accountability and professional growth.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, service excellence, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
• Ensure effective workload management, cross-training, and business continuity planning.
• Recognize and support employee contributions through ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.

Relationship Management & Service Excellence

• Serve as a trusted financial advisor and resource to College leadership and key stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across Mount Carmel Health System, Trinity Health, and affiliated organizations.
• Effectively communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences.
• Participate in cross-functional committees, projects, and strategic initiatives.
• Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, and customer service.
• Demonstrate and promote Mount Carmel's Mission, Values, and Service Excellence standards in all interactions.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field required.
• Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or related discipline) preferred.

Licensure / Certification

• CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.

Experience

• Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, business intelligence, higher education finance, or related areas.
• Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience within healthcare, higher education, nonprofit, or complex matrix organizations preferred.
• Experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit coordination, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and process improvement initiatives preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical capabilities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and performance management.
• Understanding of higher education financial operations, student billing, accounts receivable, and institutional loan administration.
• Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, including student financial aid processes and IRS Form 1098-T reporting.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, financial systems, and reporting tools.
• Experience developing dashboards, financial models, and executive-level presentations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
• Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality.
