Job Title: Manager, Facilities Engineering Job Code: 38016 Job Location: Salt Lake City, UT Job Schedule: 9/80 (employee's work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off) Job Description:We are seeking an experienced Manager, Facilities Engineering & Project Management to lead facilities engineering operations and capital project execution for a 1 million sq. ft. campus consisting of mixed manufacturing, R&D, and office space. This role is responsible for the reliability, performance, compliance, and continuous improvement of site infrastructure and building systems, as well as the planning and delivery of facility-related projects that support business operations, growth, and security requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facilities engineering, infrastructure systems, project management, and team leadership in a complex operational environment.
Essential Functions:Leadership and Team Management- Lead, develop, and manage the facilities engineering team, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Partner with Maintenance, EHS, Security, IT, Manufacturing, and site leadership to align facility support with business needs.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Facilities Engineering- Oversee facilities engineering support for site infrastructure and building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, controls, data/telecom, compressed air, and vacuum systems.
- Develop and improve preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance strategies in partnership with the Maintenance team.
- Monitor system health, asset condition, and infrastructure capacity; develop plans to address reliability risks, deferred maintenance, and end-of-life assets.
- Provide technical leadership for complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
Project Management- Lead facility-related capital and expense projects from planning through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, occupancy, and closeout.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, cost estimates, specifications, and bid packages.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure project objectives are achieved.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable requirements.
- Support space planning, renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and site improvement initiatives.
Budgeting and Strategic Planning- Develop and manage facilities engineering operating budgets and capital plans.
- Prepare cost estimates, business cases, and funding justifications for maintenance and capital investments.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, energy efficiency, and operational improvement.
- Support long-range facility planning, infrastructure modernization, and campus optimization efforts.
Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, permits, and company policies related to facility operations and construction activities.
- Partner with EHS and Security to support environmental, safety, life safety, and physical security requirements.
- Implement and enforce contractor safety requirements and work control practices.
- Support emergency preparedness, infrastructure resilience, and facility-related incident response.
Vendor and Contractor Management- Manage relationships with contractors, consultants, and service providers, including scope development, performance management, and issue resolution.
- Support contract development, review, and administration to ensure quality, cost, and schedule expectations are achieved.
Technical Expertise- Maintain knowledge of current technologies, standards, and best practices in facilities engineering, maintenance, and project management.
- Provide expertise in the design, operation, and maintenance of building infrastructure systems.
- Support specialized construction and facility requirements for secure or regulated spaces, including DoD/ICD 705 environments, as applicable.
Required Qualifications (one of the following along with minimum Secret Clearance):- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field and minimum 9 years prior related experience.
- Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Must have a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills:- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in facilities engineering, facilities management, plant engineering, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadershipexperience managing teams, contractors, or technical resources.
- Experience managing facility infrastructure systems in a complex manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, or campus environment.
- Experience leading renovation, infrastructure, or large-scale commercial / industrialconstruction projects.
- Experience developing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Business, Facilities Management, or related field.
- PE, PMP, CFM, or other relevant professional certification.
- Experience with DoD, aerospace, defense, or other regulated environments.
- Knowledge of ICD 705 and secure area construction requirements.
- Experience with RSMeans or similar estimating tools.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, CMMS, and building automation systems.
- Experience in space planning, facility optimization, and campus planning.
