Full Job Description
The Environmental Services Manager at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a key leadership role within the Environmental Services (EVS) Department, supporting safe, clean, and healing environments across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural areas. The Environmental Services Manager oversees daily EVS operations, regulatory readiness, staff performance, and service delivery that directly support patient care, infection prevention, and clinical excellence.

The Environmental Services Manager partners with clinical, operational, and facilities leaders to ensure environmental services standards align with institutional, regulatory, and patient experience expectations. The Environmental Services Manager plays a visible leadership role and serves as a steward of safety, quality, and accountability.

The ideal candidate is a dependable and motivated leader with healthcare environmental services experience, demonstrated ability to manage staff and operations in a hospital environment, strong communication and organizational skills, and a working knowledge of regulatory standards, infection control practices, and performance management; prior supervisory experience, familiarity with Joint Commission readiness, and training or mentorship experience are preferred.

Minimum $92,500.00 - Midpoint $115,500.00 - Maximum $138,500.00 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.
The typical work schedule is full-time, based on operational needs, including possible weekends and holidays.
Work location: Onsite at UT MD Anderson in Houston, TX.

KEY RESPONSIILITIES
Facilities Management & Regulatory Readiness
• Plan, coordinate, and manage housekeeping, emergency response, alterations, and operations for assigned areas
• Participate in inspections and ensure compliance with departmental, institutional, and regulatory standards
• Maintain assigned areas in continuous Joint Commission readiness
• Oversee USP 797 cleaning and documentation processes
• Oversee operating room cleaning and disinfection
• Identify and report life safety deficiencies on a daily basis
• Maintain hallways in a clear and safe manner and respond to hallway obstructions within 15 minutes
• Coordinate repair requests, building improvements, and alterations
• Forecast future operational needs and manage the budget for assigned areas
• Close demand work orders daily
Personnel Management & Development
• Hire staff, complete performance reviews, recommend promotions, and manage human resources issues
• Develop and manage staff schedules and control overtime usage
• Conduct disciplinary actions and recognize staff accomplishments
• Communicate and coordinate with other EVS managers
• Supervise floor care programs and the electronic Bed Management System
• Track onboarding of new staff through the first year
• Monitor staff on FMLA and coordinate return-to-work communications
• Observe clock-in procedures and cart check-out and return
Training, Safety & Performance
• Schedule and assist staff with mandatory training requirements
• Train staff on work instructions, safety practices, personal protective equipment, and equipment use
• Train staff on infection control procedures, including chemical use, ATP sampling, and Xenex disinfection
• Mentor team leaders in professional development
• Implement cost control measures
• Monitor and improve HCAHPS and Press Ganey scores
• Complete ePerformance documentation on schedule
• Perform daily Kronos updates and weekly exception reports
Customer Service & Operational Excellence
• Ensure service delivery aligns with service level agreements and departmental policies
• Set priorities and manage time with urgency to meet customer and patient needs
• Inspect assigned areas and monitor completed work
• Communicate with customers and patients regarding concerns and service requests and follow up on outcomes
• Oversee timely delivery of beds to appropriate locations
• Conduct and document a minimum of eight leadership rounds weekly with follow-up actions

EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree In a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: 4 years In environmental services, hospital and patient care, or infection control experience, to include two years in a supervisory/management capacity. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: 4 years Environmental services experience to include two years in a supervisory/management capacity.

Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
