Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Land Resources, the environmental manager will implement, oversee, and maintain the CEMEX Environmental Management System while demonstrating exemplary environmental leadership and driving an environmentally responsible culture among our workforce. The environmental manager will be responsible for assuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and permits at multiple South Florida Aggregates sites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Promote Zero4Life in all activities. Zero4Life represents the CEMEX goal and vision for an injury-free workplace; a workplace where every injury is preventable and the elimination of all injuries, not reduction of injuries, is what motivates us.
  • Assures conformance with federal, state, and municipal legislation and regulations for all sites under manager's direct supervision.
  • Serves as liaison between CEMEX and all agencies concerned with regulatory oversight of sites under manager's direct supervision.
  • Responsible for communication and negotiation with the regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the analysis and evaluation of site air, water, and land systems to determine if constituents exceed regulatory limits. Directs the implementation of corrective actions, controls, countermeasures, and programs to abate, control, or eliminate environmental exceedances.
  • Develops and plans policies and procedures related to air, water, and land systems in accordance with organizational goals, government regulations, as well as the health and safety of the workforce.
  • Evaluates operations and makes recommendations to reduce site waste, pollution, and/or contamination.
  • Assist in the continued improvement and consistent implementation of the CEMEX Environmental Management System across Florida Region.
  • Stay abreast of changes to environmental regulations and recommend strategies to avoid or adapt to risks.
  • Develop systems to measure and assess environmental improvement/progress via internal and external audits and assessments.
  • Identify environmental risks and assist in developing actions to reduce, minimize or eliminate such risks.
  • Act as internal consultant to the Florida Region as to environmental compliance and in obtaining environmental permit authorizations.
  • Assess each site to assure they have sufficient resources, structure, and personnel to meet demands of regulatory compliance.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to field environmental specialists and technicians.
  • Interface with community leaders and public officials to promote a positive corporate image of CEMEX.
  • Participate in local community events/activities to promote CEMEX community involvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (Environmental Science or related field preferred).
  • 4+ years professional experience in an environmental role or a combination of 2 years plus advanced degree (Master of Science in a related field).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Substantive knowledge of land entitlement and regulatory permitting processes at federal, state, and local levels or willingness to learn.
  • Must be highly organized with a superlative level of initiative and drive, and able to work independently without supervision.
  • Must possess well-developed leadership skills with ability to manage diverse teams of aggregates industry professionals in matters related to environmental compliance, as well as external consultants in matters related to regulatory permitting and the preparation of submittal packages on behalf of CEMEX.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with ability to prepare and deliver, informative and concise presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with ability to cite documented evidence for proposed actions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with senior business and community officials.
  • Advanced competency with Microsoft Office Systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and enterprise computer network environments.
  • Proficiency in Google Earth Pro, Esri ArcGIS, and/or Autodesk AutoCAD 3D applications.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 15% as business requires.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 10-15lbs frequently & 25-50lbs occasionally
  • Walk, climb stars & ladders, sit, stand, crouch, & stoop
  • Ability to use computers, ready, write, and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to comply with all MSHA & CEMEX safety regulations and able to utilize all PPE as needed
