Position Overview

The Manager, Engineering provides technical leadership and supervision to support project demands while maintaining a limited project workload aligned with overall business needs. This role provides technical oversight and guidance to engineers within the office, works closely with the Director of Engineering to achieve department goals, and helps ensure projects are delivered with a high level of quality, efficiency, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Accomplishes human resourceobjectivesby recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieves operationalobjectivesby contributing engineering information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits;identifyingtrends;determiningadministrative system improvements; implementing change.
  • Provide oversight,technicaland procedural direction to ensure proper engineering processes are followed throughout projects.
  • Developing,nurturingandmaintainingtrusted relationships with senior level engineering, managers, and executives with current or prospective clients.
  • Ability to coordinate work with engineering offices where shared resources mightreside.
  • Work withdepartmentto cross-train employees on multi-client standards for efficiency and scale, working towards more of a team concept.
  • Actively coordinate with Business Development to ensure a more consistent pipeline and backlog of workflow.
  • Confidently and comfortably present technical solutions to key customersrespondin real time to technical concerns and answer questions in a knowledgeable articulate manner.
  • Delegating, planning, prioritizing, andforecastupcoming engineering requirements/needs including non-job-related training schedules.
  • Direct and/orparticipatein client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
  • Provide technical support for quotes/estimating as it relates to engineering, projectmanagementand client management input
  • Review and approve employee time sheets and expense statements for accuracy.
  • Ensure project cost, quality, and schedule requirements are met.
  • Conduct audits to ensure all design packages followQualusQA/QC process.
  • Oversee internal training program byidentifyingstaffs needs and coordinating resources that will perform training.
  • Attend Project Kickoff meetings to discuss in detail work scope, project specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements with project team
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree inElectrical Engineering, ABET accredited preferred.Mastersdegree in Engineering Managementor MBA, a plus
  • Minimum 5 years in management, within the energy sector.Experience performing substation physical design, protection and control design, and/or power systems studies.
  • Professional Engineering license, preferred.
  • Strong communicationskills able to relate to all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of both business and technical terminology
  • Strong analytical and computer skills
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Excellentdemonstratedcommunication (written and verbal),peopleand organizational skills
  • Proven ability to develop andmaintainfinancial plans
  • Strong senseof urgency, organizationalskills, and attention to detail while at the same time, prioritizing tasks for the most efficiency and to meet any required deadlines
  • Ability to independently work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plain and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to independently apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,ratiosand proportions of practical situations.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing duties of this job,employeewill be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects and toolsup to 75% of the time.
  • The employeefrequentlywill beusing a computer and smartphone for communication.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilitiesrequiredinclude close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
