Job Description:

Caterpillar products process high volumes of data coming from sensors, embedded systems and control systems in real time. Caterpillar's MineStar integrated suite of machine-based technologies provides operators with information to enhance productivity, efficiency and safety. MineStar can enable customers to monitor, manage and optimize their operations. It provides a wide range of features in the areas of guidance, tracking, monitoring and supervisory control. MineStar integrates with broader mining and enterprise systems and is a key part of the Mining Technology Enabled Solutions vision.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Software) to lead one or more cross-functional software delivery teams building and evolving Caterpillar MineStar products. You will be accountable for team performance, engineering execution, and the delivery of measurable customer outcomes. This role partners closely with Product Management, Architecture, and peer engineering leaders to set technical direction, strengthen operating rhythm, and foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and built-in quality.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineers through clear expectations, regular feedback, performance management, and career growth plans.
  • Build and sustain high-performing teams: hiring, onboarding, resource planning, and succession planning aligned to product and platform strategy.
  • Own delivery outcomes across one or more teams: predictable execution, transparent reporting, and effective risk/issue management.
  • Embed a culture of built-in quality through engineering excellence practices (e.g., automated testing, code review, SRE/operability, and continuous improvement).
  • Define, track, and improve key engineering metrics (throughput, quality, reliability, and customer impact) and use data to drive decisions.
  • Partner with Product, UX, Architecture, and integration teams to align technical roadmap, architecture, and feature delivery to customer and business strategy.
  • Drive technical strategy within your area of ownership-balancing new capability delivery with platform health, scalability, security, and technical debt reduction.
  • Anticipate and mitigate delivery and technical risks; resolve cross-team dependencies and remove impediments to sustained flow.
  • Maintain strong technical credibility across modern product development practices (cloud, distributed systems, DevOps, security, mobile, data/analytics) to guide decision-making and coach teams.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment


Considerations For Top Candidates:
  • Proven people leadership experience in a modern software engineering environment across the full product lifecycle, with accountability for team performance, hiring, coaching, scaling teams, delivery practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Domain knowledge in mining technology and operational environments (or the ability to learn complex industrial domains quickly).
  • Proven delivery leadership using Agile and DevOps practices in commercial product environments, with a strong focus on reliability, security, and customer value.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
