Responsibilities

  • Oversee the selection and sourcing of transportation carriers, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Evaluate and negotiate contracts with carriers to align with company standards and needs.
  • Manage communication and service levels between locations and approved carriers to optimize performance.
  • Analyze carrier coverage, service levels, and financial history to inform vendor decisions.
  • Ensure acquired companies comply with company standards within transportation operations.
  • Generate detailed reports on transportation metrics including costs, service levels, and compliance.
  • Maintain and enhance functionality of the Transportation Management System (TMS) for optimal performance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in domestic transportation and leadership exp,
  • Working knowledge of contract analysis, and governmental regulations, including HazMat, Customs, NAFTA, OSHA, and DOT.
  • Proficient in TMS (MercuryGate TMS, JDA, LeanLogistics, Manhattan Associates) functionality and reporting. Experience in transportation modeling tools a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Excel, SQL/Snowflake, PowerBI, Tableau, MicroStrategy, SAP


Job Summary

Leads and develops strategy for freight function. Develops negotiation strategies and manages carrier relationships. Ensures customer requirements are met with minimal service disruption.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
  • Oversees the selection of transportation related carriers, researching, qualifying and sourcing vendors.
  • Ensures carriers meet company needs and standards through evaluating carrier coverage areas, service levels, financial history and pricing.
  • Manages transportation service levels as a liaison between locations and core carriers, evaluating use of approved and non-authorized carriers to ensure maximum service levels.
  • Represents company needs through analyzing and negotiating contracts with carriers.
  • Directs the integration of acquired companies to ensure compliance with company needs and standards.
  • Generates reports on productivity, cost, service, savings, benchmarking, compliance, roll-out schedules and carrier metrics.
  • Maintains and enhances TMS functionality. Monitors TMS compliance and low cost carrier usage.

Work Environment
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
