PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Construction Manager is responsible for leading the safe and successful execution of capital construction projects, with a focus on oil and gas facilities, pump stations, compressor stations, and related infrastructure. This role ensures constructability in project development, oversees construction execution through mechanical completion and turnover, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, project requirements, schedule, budget, and up to quality expectations.

This position provides field leadership to 3rd party company representatives across multiple active projects. The Construction Manager is responsible for coordinating daily construction activities, managing contractor performance, supporting quality assurance and commissioning efforts, and driving accountability for safety, cost, schedule, and execution outcomes. This role also serves as a key communication link between engineering, operations, project management, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is a proven construction leader with extensive oil and gas facility experience, a strong safety-first mindset, and the ability to manage multiple contractors and projects simultaneously. Success in this role requires excellent communication, strong field leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to align diverse stakeholders while driving projects to successful completion.

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety
  • Lead field safety culture by living Tallgrass Safety Culture.
  • Ensure contractor compliance.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Conduct routine field audits.
    Construction Management
  • Direct daily construction inspection activities across multiple project teams as required.
  • Coordinate vendor work.
  • Remove execution barriers.
  • Monitor productivity via schedule reviews and field productivity audits.
  • Verify manpower adequacy.
  • Manage field changes.
  • Ensure work follows drawings and specifications.
    Schedule Management
  • Monitor project schedule.
  • Identify critical path risks.
  • Track contractor performance.
  • Report schedule status to project leadership.
    Quality
  • Ensure inspection and test plans are followed via audits.
  • Monitor weld quality.
  • Review turnover documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory and Tallgrass specifications.
  • Verify completion of check sheets utilizing commissioning.
  • Manage punch lists.
  • Coordinate mechanical completion.
    Contractor Management
  • Hold contractors accountable for scope, schedule, quality, and safety.
  • Review staffing plans.

  • Interface with environmental and regulatory personnel.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field experience preferred.
  • 15+ years of Construction Leadership experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working with multiple projects.
  • PMP or CCM certification preferred.
  • Experience with natural gas pipelines
    • Compressor & Pump stations.
    • Processing facilities.
    • Brownfield Execution.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Mechanical Completion
    • Commissioning
    • Turnover
    • QA/QC
    • Construction scheduling


Preferred Qualifications
  • API, ASME, or welding inspection knowledge
  • Knowledge of B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API, and OSHA requirements
  • Experience with owner-side project execution
  • Knowledge of commissioning activities


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to build relationships with internal groups, customers, contractors, the public, and landowners.
