Full Job Description
Overview The Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring that all construction requirements and intelligence are integrated into the conceptual design and throughout the project lifecycle. This person will be responsible for performing the initial constructability review which will include the creation of the preliminary construction work outage sequence (CWOS) and site risk identification and mitigation. Must be a team player capable of working with management, project managers, engineering, project controls and contractors. Must be capable of coordinating and influencing a wide range of functional organizational leads and subject matter experts through the development phase to accomplish the goals and objectives of the organization. Must be goal oriented, action-focused, pragmatic, and self-disciplined. Manages and oversees the development of transmission substations and lines projects including layout, scope, and schedule, ensuring alignment with Transmission investment strategy. This position is responsible for complex decisions that balance a wide range of strategic and tactical objectives that involve safety, reliability, cost, level of service, and environmental compliance. #LG&EKU #INDLGE Responsibilities • Supervises a team of direct and indirect reports on performing the constructability and outage coordination for all projects in the transmission portfolio. • Research, analyze, and understand the scope of work for transmission line and substation projects, and develop a constructability assessment and execution strategy for inclusion into conceptual design to final design. • At minimum constructability reviews are to be completed incorporating safety, reliability, cost efficiency, environmental impacts, outage durations, standards, and installation methods. • Develop a Constructability Work Outage Sequence (CWOS) and identify and provide any potential outage restrictions that may affect execution. Manage and update outage sequencing as required throughout the project life-cycle. • Work with other LKE functional groups such as Siting, Real Estate and Right of Way, Environmental, Engineering and Transmission and Distribution Operations to identify and incorporate requirements in the project. • Participate in field walk downs, design reviews and site access / environmental reviews. • Performs audit of project execution plans, constructability plans, and CWOS from Gate 1 thru Gate 5 in the project life-cycle. • Provides quality reviews on contractor execution plans as part of the construction bids. Evaluating quality of execution plan for safety and meeting all requirements for the required contract requirements. • Supports the development and maintenance of Project Management support policies, standards, and procedures necessary to produce the deliverables from the team and to collaborate effectively with the other teams. Assumes a leadership role in educating the business and technical community on construction, CWOS, and the constructability processes. • Responsible for the quality management of constructability documents, such as one-lines, CWOS, documentation of tools, drawings of installation proposed techniques. • Manages engineers to implement standards, best practices, and opportunities for system improvements with planned investments. • Enhance decision-making capabilities by providing visibility to standards, fiber needs, procurement, financial requirements, and resource constraints. • Ensures investments are vetted and aligned with strategic objectives during the project development stage, and support execution of strategically aligned projects as needed. • Team provides estimates for all transmission and substation projects through-out the lifecycle of the projects. Always driving team to consistently increase accuracy and drive costs down. • Sets priorities to ensure task completion and coordinates work activities with other team members to ensure delivery dates are met. • Performs other duties as assigned • Complies with all policies and standards Qualifications Required Education Bachelor's Degree in business, engineering, construction management or comparable degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis Required Experience • 7+ years relevant experience • Strong written, oral, presentation, and organizational skills. • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills. • Working knowledge of critical-path-methodology, scheduling tools, and project budgets. Preferred Qualifications • Project Management or Certified Construction Management Certificate as recognized by such organizations as the Project Management Institute or CMAA
