Position SummaryThis position is accountable for the effective operation of several community-based child care centres, that are also used as teaching facilities for students enrolled in the College's Early Childhood Education program. The successful candidate will plan the Centre's operations to ensure the provision of a balanced program with emphasis on the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of the client children. They will be accountable for ensuring that the Centres maintain standards prescribed by the Child Care and Early Years Act and meet government and local child care agency criteria for funding. They will effectively coordinate and monitor the training experience for college students, hiring staff at the Centres and conducting evaluations to ensure that the Centres meet their objectives..
Responsibilities - Planning, coordinating, and monitoring the operation of multiple Child Care Centres while balancing the requirements of child care legislation, licensing standards, funding agreements, College policies, educational objectives, staffing requirements, and the needs of children, families, students, and employees. The role requires the assessment of operational issues, competing priorities, and emerging risks to determine appropriate courses of action that support program quality, regulatory compliance, and service delivery objectives.
- Balance programs and activities for the Centre's to maximize the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of the client children.
- Maintain high standards to ensure that the Centre's conform to the Child Care Early Years Act and meet the objectives of the Early Childhood Education program of the College
- Meet/exceed any standards established by local Children's Services agencies to qualify/obtain purchase agreements/ funding.
- Ensure a safe, healthy environment for the client children by complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHIMIS and Public Health Regulations. Conducts inspection of all the Centre's to ensure compliance.
- Ensure that daily meals conform to recognized nutrition standards.
- Ensure that staffing levels at the Centre's are appropriate for the children occupancy ratios.
- Contribute to the educational experience of the Early Childhood Education students and other college student by providing an appropriate learning environment, arranging appropriate student placement schedules and assisting with evaluation.
- Liaise with the faculty on current issues, discusses expectations and student placement issues; participate in evaluation conferences with the students, playroom teachers and faculty.
- Maintain a high level of performance by recruiting, training, developing, evaluating and motivating staff in the Centre.
- Set program objectives with the staff.
- Contribute to the development/ongoing review of the Early Childhood Education curriculum.
- Meet with parents of client children to discuss issues and to ensure continued confidence in the program offered by the Centre's.
- Provide direct supervision to staff and program/activities.
- Responsible for the financial planning and budgetary control of the Centre.
- Maintain up-to-date records according to legislative and College requirements pertaining to the Centre.
- Coordinate facility-related matters for the Child Care Centres by identifying issues, liaising with College departments and external vendors, monitoring corrective actions, and supporting the maintenance of safe, effective, and compliant learning environments
- Work with all regulatory bodies including but not limited to the Ministry of Education, City of Toronto, College of ECEs, and Support Staff Unions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience - Two-year Early Childhood Education diploma, Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Studies, Management Certificate in Early Years; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Five (5) years of demonstrated experience managing or coordinating operations within a licensed child care, early learning, or related educational environment, including responsibility for program delivery, service quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Registered member, in good standing, with the College of ECE
- Must have a valid First Aid and CPR certification; up-to-date medical including Tuberculosis test and immunization; Vulnerable Sector police check.
- Sound knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and funding requirements governing licensed child care operations, including the Child Care and Early Years Act, health and safety requirements, and Ministry or municipal licensing and funding frameworks.
- Experience supervising, coaching, scheduling, and evaluating staff, including responsibility for recruitment, performance management, staff development, and maintaining appropriate staffing levels within a regulated environment.
- Experience managing operational budgets, monitoring expenditures, maintaining records, and supporting financial accountability in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience working with parents, community partners, regulatory agencies, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to resolve issues, support program objectives, and maintain positive working relationships.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities, respond to emerging operational issues, and exercise sound judgment in a complex service environment.
- Proficiency with standard office software and child care administration, licensing, scheduling, or record management systems.
