Summit School Services is currently seeking a Benefits Manager to assist with the delivery and implementation of the Company's health and welfare benefits plans in both the United States and Canada. To support, manage and report the HR data and ensure plans are consistently administered and in compliance with company and government regulations. This position reports directly to Director of Compensation & Benefits and is a remote role.
- Assists with the development, evaluation, planning, and administration of all health and welfare benefit plans and programs.
- Develops and updates benefit communication materials to ensure employees obtain accurate information to make informed benefit decisions (i.e., benefits newsletters, intranet, benefit portal, etc.).
- Maintains an accurate up-to-date database of current benefit programs for all company locations; maintains a working knowledge of company union contracts and follows negotiated benefit provisions to ensure benefit programs are administered and documented accurately.
- Implements and coordinates all benefit acquisition work including new locations and closures due diligence, project planning, benefit recommendation, financial impact and integration.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with internal partners (Labor, Field HR and Operations, Finance, Payroll) and external partners (benefit consultants, brokers, insurance providers, and benefit plan administrators).
- Assists with ensuring all benefit plan compliance requirements are met including testing, auditing, Form 5500 filings, required notices, and 1095-C reporting requirements.
- Provides a variety of technical information from which employees and members may make responsible decisions concerning their benefits and retirement plans.
- Researches data systems such as HRIS, payroll and benefits portals and collaborates with internal and external partners to correct errors and systemic issues.
- Assist with annual open enrollment development, communications, rollout, & closeout.
- Executes fiduciary responsibilities as 401k Administrator related to funding, audits, compliance, corrections, etc.
- Serves as back up for leave administration, short-term & long-term disabilities, and direct billing.
- Drives process improvement initiatives to streamline operations and enhance service delivery.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Business Information Systems; SHRM professional designation preferred. Advanced degree a plus
- 5-10years' experience with complicated benefit solutions within large (20,000 + employees) corporate environment
- Experience with Oracle Fusion required
- Significant experience integrating benefits administration into a broader HR ecosystem / HRIS platform, including functional setup, transactional processes, and reporting tools
- Sound knowledge of principles and practices of benefit program administration and proven expertise in managing the administration of a wide range of benefits policies, programs, plans and related processes in a large company with many locations
- Ability to manage multiple critical, time-sensitive projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines
- Significant experience working with PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint and Excel is required (v-look ups & pivot tables a must)
- Excellent knowledge and expertise in interpreting and applying the provisions of a diversity of employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, ADD, short-term disability, COBRA, Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance plans, Section 125 plan, 401(k) plans and Canadian RRSP plans.
- Demonstrated aptitude for statistical analysis, spreadsheet manipulation and database management
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct due diligence for proposed acquisitions and develop options/recommendations for management consideration and to resolve a variety of complex problems.
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in all matters related to benefits
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential
