Unit Summary

The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by the Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare. The program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into health care and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of that science. The discipline of AP is operating at 4 hospital sites, has a budget of $6 m and approximately 70 technical staff.

Position Summary

The Anatomical Pathology Manager works collaboratively with the Discipline Director to ensure effective and efficient management of all anatomical pathology services within the approved resources. A member of the Laboratory Management Team, participates in the development of goals and objectives as related to patient outcomes and in support of the mission, values, vision and strategic goals of the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program which are consistent with those of St. Joseph's Hospital and Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation. Some of the responsibilities include:

Ensures safe and effective services by maintaining and improving performance standards as determined by professional groups, legislation or accreditation standards; facilitates the integration and redesign of Anatomic Pathology within the Program, coordinates investigation and assessment of new technologies and products specific to Anatomical Pathology; collaborates with the Purchasing Departments in the negotiation of supply and service contracts; responsible for the recruitment, retention, recognition and performance management of all anatomical pathology technical staff; assists in promoting an environment which supports staff development; participates in the short and long term capital and operating plans development and contributes to the Program's business plan for meeting the needs of the clinical and academic programs. He/she will develop and maintain a personal education program that supports continuing improvement in the role of Anatomical Pathology Manager and will perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday; days (weekend on call as required)

Qualifications

1. Degree/Certificate from a recognized Health Management Program

2. Advanced Registered Technologist or Bachelor of Science in a related science or Bachelor of Technology, preferred

3. Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario

4. Previous management experience preferably in Anatomical Pathology

5. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the integration of teaching, research and service in a changing health care environment through effective management of resource

6. Demonstrated excellence in communication, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change

7. Demonstrated commitment to professional development for self and other

8. Demonstrated experience in conflict management

9. Proven ability to develop partnerships with key stakeholders and develop a high performing team environment

10. Experience meeting financial and performance target
