JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for leading Georgia Power's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Meter Data Management (MDM) functions, including strategy, implementation, operations, system performance, and continuous improvement. The role ensures AMI and MDM capabilities are effectively integrated with Power Delivery, Customer Service, and Marketing objectives. This position also collaborates with Alabama Power and Mississippi Power AMI/MDM leadership to advance our Lead as a System approach across Southern Company, promoting enterprise alignment, shared best practices, coordinated execution, and advancement of AMI and MDM capabilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • This position requires more than 8-10 years of combined experience in the energy sector, with a focus on Data Analysis, Communications Systems, Metering, Information Technology, and/or Distribution Operations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical grid systems, smart grid technologies, and regulatory environments.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale technology projects.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires skills to lead, persuade, and influence strategic decisions across all Operating Companies and the Technology Organization, while effectively managing different viewpoints.
  • This role requires experience communicating complex technical information with various senior leadership teams throughout Georgia Power and Southern Company.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain cross-functional relationships.
  • Excellent Vendor / Supplier Management Skills - This position requires skill to negotiate with vendor partners and hold them accountable for contractual agreements. Requires technical knowledge and ability to influence vendor product roadmaps through direct partnership and industry impact.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and cybersecurity principles related to AMI and Smart Grid systems.
  • Ability to develop other leaders by coaching on performance management, setting clear expectations, and maximizing the full potential of their teams.
  • Passionate about creating a culture that attracts and maintains high quality talent, while challenging the team to aggressively innovate and achieve outsized results.
  • Experience with financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations & Systems Support (30%)

The team ensures reliable operation of Georgia Power's AMI and MDM infrastructure through performance monitoring and issue resolution, while enabling seamless integration with downstream systems.
  • Manage the AMI meter population of ~2.8M meters.
  • Responsible for AMI Head-End Systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Oversee the AMI Base Station Infrastructure population consisting of 700+ Base Station collectors.
  • Manage the Oracle C2M system to ensure accurate collection, validation, and billing of Industrial, Commercial and Residential Customers.
  • Storm Response Responsibilities
    • Outage Management - Responsible for planning and managing the flow of critical Power Failure/Restore messages to TCMS (Oracle NMS) and ADMS.
    • Support the storm center and local operations by setting restoration priority for AMI Infrastructure.

Strategy Development (30%)

Develop and execute a comprehensive AMI and MDM strategy aligned with the company's goals for operational efficiency, grid modernization, and customer satisfaction that address future business needs, applying industry best practices and collaborating across all Operating Companies
  • Next Generation AMI & Smart Grid Strategy (AMI 2.0) - Lead strategic technology decisions that will shape AMI capabilities for the next 15-20 years.
  • Develop technology integration plans that improve operational efficiency and customer value by partnering with the Technology Organization and business stakeholders to fully utilize Oracle C2M.
  • Engage in utility trade associations such as, Edison Electric Institute (EEI), Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC) and Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE) to benefit the needs of Georgia Power.

Team Leadership (20%)
  • Lead a team of 22 professionals, including supervisors, engineers, analysts, and contractors.
  • Create and maintain a team culture built on psychological safety, intentional connections, and continuous improvement. Ensuring team members feel empowered to speak up, collaborate across the AMI and MDM Organization, develop their capabilities, and continually improve performance.
  • Lead supervisors building and retaining a high-performing team of AMI and MDM professionals, with a focus on recruiting top talent, developing future leaders, driving accountability, and advancing industry best practices.

Data Management & Analytics (10%)

Partner with the AMI Data Analytics Team to leverage AMI and MDM data in providing actionable insights for customer engagement initiatives, grid optimization, demand response programs and outage management.

  • Further Development & Support of the PD Cloud Strategy by partnering with the Technology Organization leadership to further refine and execute a strategy to transition our company's data into enterprise value.
  • Partner with AMI Analytics team to develop and implement data science models and applications.
  • Provide technical direction to vendors for design and development of solutions that further our AMI & MDM strategy.

Budget (10%)

Develop and manage capital and O&M budgets, allocate resources effectively, and oversee vendor contracts to ensure cost-efficient AMI and MDM operations.
