Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced counsel or professional to join the public policy team. The team provides strategic advice to the business and anticipates policy trends and impacts. We also proactively drive thought leadership by seeking out new ideas to help the company lead the industry. You will focus on matters involving U.S. artificial intelligence policy, including analyzing and advising on proposed legislation and regulation at the state and federal levels and serving as an AI subject matter expert for the broader Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC. Responsibilities: - Anticipate and shape the future of AI policy by partnering with internal and external legal and government affairs teams to track, interpret, and respond to emerging AI legislation, regulation, standards, and government initiatives in the United States. - Provide actionable and practical advice on AI-related products, features, governance practices, and product launches. - Craft compelling, clear messaging that explains complex AI-related legal, technical, and policy issues to a broad audience while keeping public policy communications accurate and effective. - Develop policy positions and solutions involving AI. - Navigate regulatory change by working closely with legal counsel, product teams, technical experts, and government affairs colleagues to assess shifting AI requirements and their implications for the company's products and operations. - Advocate externally and clearly articulate company positions to policymakers, regulators, industry associations, standards organizations, academics, think tanks, safety advocates, and civil-society stakeholders. - Work on emerging technology policy issues as needed and assume leadership over projects and initiatives on TikTok's public policy team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification(s) - JD and/or significant experience, ideally in government, in-house, or at a law firm. - Strong working knowledge of U.S. AI laws, policy proposals, and regulatory frameworks, as well as strong understanding of the changing federal and state AI policy environment, including proposed federal AI legislation, executive-branch actions, agency initiatives, and emerging state laws. - Experience advising on AI or emerging technology issues affecting technology companies or digital platforms. - Experience analyzing AI-related products, features, governance practices, or operational initiatives. - Ability to understand technical concepts and translate them into practical legal and public policy recommendations for nontechnical audiences. - Experience working across multiple functions, influencing, and collaborating with others to successfully implement programs and initiatives; history of successful cross-functional team and leadership collaboration. - Strong research and analytical abilities paired with significant discretion. The individual will need to assess complex situations, clearly communicate their implications for the company, and defend priorities for the public policy function. Preferred Qualification(s) - Strong working knowledge of global AI laws and regulatory frameworks. - Experience analyzing and shaping AI or technology policy at a regulatory agency, legislative body, technology company, standards organization, or law firm. - Experience working with technology companies and the ability to understand complex legal, technical, product, and operational issues. - Experience working directly on AI legislation, regulation, standards, model governance, algorithmic accountability, or synthetic-media policy. - Familiarity with recommendation systems, generative AI, content moderation, online safety, advertising technology, or creator platforms. - Experience partnering with global stakeholders. - Demonstrated comfort with public speaking and representing an organization in external settings.

Job Information

[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (Annually) - Washington, DC

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $ 159000 - $ 272000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
