Leveraging deep expertise in strengthening healthcare systems, CHAI has launched an ambitious Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative to support Ministries of Health to systematically capture and scale the benefits of AI. The CHAI AI program seeks to support Ministries to reimagine what is possible with technology, building towards a vision of 7AI Native Health Systems8 that makes health care delivery accessible, high-quality, and efficient. There are four pillars of the strategy: (1) bringing the capabilities of world-class clinical intelligence or 7AI Doctors8 to every clinician and patient, (2) developing and deploying new 7AI Diagnostics8 that decentralize and improve quality of diagnoses, and (3) health systems AI applications, or the creation of 7National Health Intelligence Centers8 that improve systems capacity in disease surveillance, financial and workforce management, supply chain, and beyond.
The fourth pillar of this initiative is supporting Ministries of Health in the strengthening of the 7AI Foundations8 needed to successfully implement and sustain the most impactful applications of AI across the other three pillars. AI Foundations include the practical work of readying workforce, governance, infrastructure, and digital / data foundations that governments need to scale and sustain AI. Related to this work, CHAI recently co-launched the AI Commons for Global Health, an initiative that brings together a diverse set of stakeholders to collaboratively build and maintain the shared tooling, standards and knowledge required for AI to support improved health care access, quality and efficiency around the world. The Manager will report to the Associate Director, AI Foundations and play a central role in advancing CHAI's AI Foundations work. This includes moving forward work with Ministries of Health to strengthen the governance, workforce, infrastructure, and the digital and data foundations needed for sustainable AI adoption. They will lead and contribute to research efforts that inform CHAI's strategy and country engagements, synthesizing evidence and emerging practice on AI for health to guide decision-making. The Manager will manage relationships with a range of stakeholders, including internal CHAI experts on related topics, ministry of health officials, global health partners, and technology companies, ensuring strong coordination and alignment across workstreams. This role requires creative problem-solving in a new and rapidly changing field, often with limited precedent to draw on, as well as the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences. The Manager will also play a role in supporting the AI Commons for Global Health, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and day-to-day operations for working groups as the initiative grows. This is a dynamic role that combines strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and relationship management, and offers significant opportunity for growth as CHAI's AI for health work expands.
This position can be levelled at a Manager or Senior Manager, depending on level of experience.
ResponsibilitiesThis role will require extensive travel, including the program countries, to support ministries of health and represent CHAI at partner convenings.
