Otter Tail Power Company is seeking a strategic and collaborative accounting leader to manage our Property Accounting function. In this role, you'll lead a talented team responsible for utility fixed assets, capital investments, depreciation, jointly owned generation accounting, and related regulatory and financial reporting support.
This position plays an important role in supporting the infrastructure investments that power our communities while partnering across Accounting, Operations, Engineering, Regulatory, and Business Planning to support informed decisions and long-term asset strategies.
This position reports to Controller.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for property accounting, depreciation, capital budgeting support, and jointly owned plant accounting.
- Oversee accounting and reporting for utility fixed assets, construction activities, capitalization, unitization, and related financial processes.
- Provide accounting leadership for capital planning, forecasting, project reporting, depreciation studies, Asset Retirement Obligations, and asset life cycle matters.
- Direct accounting and reporting activities for jointly owned generation facilities, including ownership records, allocations, billings, and cost-sharing arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, FERC Uniform System of Accounts, SOX, company policies, and other regulatory requirements.
- Support audits, regulatory proceedings, rate cases, and interactions with consultants, regulators, operating agents, and co-owners.
- Identify and lead process, system, reporting, and data governance improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including fixed assets, capital projects, depreciation, financial reporting, or related accounting functions.
- Five or more years of leadership experience, including coaching, developing, and managing accounting professionals.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and fixed asset accounting.
- Ability to analyze complex accounting matters, build relationships across the business, and communicate recommendations clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, develop talent, and foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.
Preferred Qualifications- CPA designation.
- Experience in the utility industry or another regulated, capital-intensive industry.
- Knowledge of FERC Uniform System of Accounts, utility regulatory accounting practices, rate cases, or cost recovery mechanisms.
- Experience with jointly owned generation assets, construction accounting, capital planning, depreciation studies, AROs, ERP systems, or process improvement initiatives.

- The expected offer for base compensation for this role is $117,000 - $162,000 annually. The actual compensation within the compensation range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
