Full Job Description
The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and plays a critical role in the accounting department. The Manager is responsible for applying accounting principles related to a variety of accounting issues and transactions. This position will also ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, both in terms of deliverables and policy development, and will help supervise and develop accounting team personnel.

Essential Functions of the Position:
  • Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to, general ledger, balance sheet, and income statement preparation, technical review of financial statements and disclosures, and staff supervision.
  • Hire, train, review, coach, and discipline employees in a span of control.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness, including maintaining system reports.
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Manage and assist with the accounting team's daily and weekly responsibilities, journal entry review, and other tasks as required.
  • Manage and assist with period-end inventory reconciliation, gross profit reporting, and financial close.
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of accounting entries and financial data through review and investigation.
  • Work to improve overall accounting processes and procedures.
  • Perform technical accounting research and documentation of new and existing policies and procedures.
  • Lead financial audits and interact with external auditors to ensure that support and explanations for all requests are provided on time.
  • Prepare or review local compliance filings, business licenses, and permits.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects to drive overall enhancements of the Financial department and results.
  • Perform P&L and Balance Sheet fluctuation analysis.
  • Maintain a separation of duties and ensure all work complies with company, State, and Federal accounting practices and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.


Knowledge:
  • Must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and proficiency in using spreadsheet programs (mainly Microsoft Excel) for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of applicable accounting policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting to internal management and external stakeholders.
  • General understanding of retail operations end-to-end, from a sale to the process of a merchandise purchase, including invoice processing.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Microsoft Dynamics - Great Plains knowledge a plus.
