Position SummaryThe Manager - Accessioning is responsible for overseeing all clerical and ancillary duties, ensuring that case workflow is operating consistently, and troubleshooting issues that may arise. They have direct line supervision of all Accessioning Supervisors, managing employee schedules and training, as well as resolving any professional conflicts that may arise. The Manager manages specimen turn-around times and communicates directly with Management regarding exceptions, timelines, etc. They are also responsible for managing all regulatory activities, enforcing consistent adherence to required regulatory guidelines to ensure the highest quality and consistency of services. While maintaining job functions, the Manager - Accessioning also interacts with other departments to ensure an optimal case flow is consistently achieved and all standard laboratory procedures and policies are followed.
Job Responsibilities- Manages all Accessioning Supervisors and oversees all case workflow activities.
- Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follows the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable level of performance.
- Documents all corrective action taken when a system deviates from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Assists with the tracking, accumulation, and computation of performance metrics.
- Ensures Accessioning has adequate inventories of supplies.
- Resolves employee relations issues and recommends disciplinary action when required in partnership with Human Resources.
- Acts as first point of contact on questions. Keeps team informed of new processes and general updates.
- Assists to perform other related duties and special projects to support other departments as required.
- Understands Accessioning protocols as set forth by Lab Management team; communicates questions/clarifies uncertainties.
- Actively engages leadership for instruction and growth.
- Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of the Laboratory and Accessioning work space and applicable equipment/resources.
- Consistently exhibits a professional demeanor in the workplace and works to maintain positive relationships with peers and management.
- Responsible for filing, tracking, retrieval, and accurate record keeping.
- Maintains pre-analytic diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensures correct patient labeling of all materials per SOPs.
- Logs appropriate information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other logs as necessary.
- Responsible for Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) of pre-analytic cases moving into the laboratory.
- Develops new protocols and SOPs to address problems and improve quality and safety within Accessioning.
- Responsible for initiating change controls and presenting at associated meetings.
- Works cross-functionally with various departments including Customer Support, Supply Chain, Molecular Leaders, Field Team, Software, Automation, Privacy, Clinical Research, and Billing.
- Initiates and leads pre-analytic performance improvement projects.
- Effectively manages complex cross-functional operational activities within and outside the lab with a high degree of independence and strong managerial judgment.
- Manages/Assists in the training of new-hires and peers.
- Proficient in troubleshooting problems and successfully maintains pre-analytic workflow in the lab.
- Is consistently viewed by teammates, supervisors and management as professional, positive, solution-oriented and a leader within the Laboratory Operations Department.
- Actively participates in department recruitment activities.
- Drives scalability through automated software and hardware solutions in partnership with leadership and automation
- Leads pre-analytic clinical and pharma research efforts to align with clinical workflows
- Drives software solutions in new systems to align with analytical workflows and intake teams
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline 3+ years of experience in general laboratory operations required.
- 1 year of leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications- 2 years of leadership experience in high-volume reference laboratory setting
Physical Demands- Must possess ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for long periods of time.
- May have exposure to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
- Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.
- Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
OtherThis position requires periodic travel and some evenings, weekends and/or Holidays.
