Full Job Description
Title: Major Gifts Officer (Director of Individual Giving) Full-Time

Schedule Format - Location: Hybrid - San Francisco

Pay Information: $121,600 - $152,000

At a time when philanthropic support has never been more important to public media, the Major Gifts Officer (Director of Individual Giving) will develop a portfolio of up to 150 individual donors giving at the $10,000 level and above, and major gifts at the six, seven, and eight-figure level for the KQED Campaign, through 2029. The portfolio will be balanced with loyal supporters in need of discovery and qualification, and prospects capable of making major and principal gifts commitments. The MGO will conduct a minimum of 10-12 visits with donors each month, following moves management best practices. Funding will be sought and secured for unrestricted annual operating support as well as endowment and for specified campaign initiatives. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Major Gifts, the MGO will support KQED's President and CEO, Vice President for Philanthropy, and will work closely with other major gifts team members and key volunteers including Board members.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.

Essential Functions:
  • Undertake the full moves management cycle with this portfolio: identify prospective donors, build a pathway to connection, qualify, cultivate, secure gifts, and provide meaningful stewardship
  • Conduct a minimum of 10-12 visits and high-touch contacts per month
  • Use research and data to unveil important intelligence that will shape relationship development and cultivation strategies
  • Leverage the KQED Board and other volunteers to make inroads into new philanthropic constituencies
  • Participate in fundraising meetings with executive leadership
  • With Senior Director of Major Gifts, identifies annual goal, develops and implements an annual business plan to ensure successful cultivation and solicitation of KQED's most significant donors, and updates forecasts regularly throughout the year
  • In consultation with the Senior Director of Major Gifts creates and oversees implementation of cultivation events

Candidate qualifications:
  • Five to seven years fundraising experience required with three to five years of experience in major gift fund raising
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to be successful in face-to-face solicitation
  • Experience in personal solicitation of gifts of $10,000 and above
  • Ability to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for Major Gifts from individuals, as well as the ability to establish measurable goals and objectives to achieve them
  • Strong oral, written, presentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group/team
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Bay Area
  • Excellent computer skills, such as Word, databases, and presentations

Special Requirements: Valid CA drivers license and car, and ability to make donor visits several times per month, attend donor events on weekends and on evenings as needed.

This role is a hybrid work position, with three days a week at KQED's San Francisco office (with exceptions for donor meetings off site).

KQED Inc. is a non-profit public media outlet based in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, which operates the radio station KQED-FM and the television stations KQED/KQET and KQEH. KQED's main headquarters are located in San Francisco and its Silicon Valley office is located in San Jose. In 2019 the San Francisco headquarters broke ground on a 90 million renovation project, which was completed in late 2021. Improvements included a larger newsroom and studio and a top floor outdoor terrace. The heart of the KQED headquarters is a 238-seat multipurpose event center called The Commons. The venue hosts KQED Live, a series of lectures, concerts, discussions and other live events with entertainers, journalists, politicians, musicians, authors, chefs and others. Reopening events for the public were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
