Description of Work
This position with NCDOT offers full , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with professional level engineering support to develop, design, contract, and administer a complete fuel site replacement program for the Department. This position will report to the Maintenance Systems Engineer, requiring minimal supervision, and assists with oversight of fuel site reconstruction projects across the 14 Highway Divisions and Ferry Division. The duties of this position include assisting with the preparation of engineering design documents, written and oral communication with Department personnel, regulatory authorities, vendors, contractors, and inspectors. Will be responsible for record keeping during the life of a reconstruction project, and to ensure compliance with reconstruction plans, standards, and specifications. Other responsibilities include the establishment of engineering controls and supervising the inspection of the fuel site reconstruction work. This position may be responsible for creating engineering drawings for various equipment builds and parts required for the manufacture and repair of NCDOT equipment, both new and existing. This position may be responsible for developing and maintaining all electronic catalogs that pertain to Fleet Procurement. This position will support the State Maintenance Operations Engineer and State Equipment Superintendent with data analysis and reporting. Occasional Statewide travel is necessary, and the ability to operate a state vehicle is required. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Working knowledge of contract administration and inspection to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the plans, specifications, provisions, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Experience organizing resources, planning, scheduling, and coordinating work to maintain both program and project schedules.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and large database programs, such as SAP.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the oversight of regulatory compliance and proper fuel site maintenance.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in evaluating program effectiveness through data interpretation, performance metrics, and technical reviews to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
