Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

The Position:

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor supervises, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in

setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, housekeeping and in

fabricating parts and tools by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

  • Assigns duties to Millwrights daily
  • Directs workers in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery
  • and equipment
  • Promotes safe work practices and provides resources to ensure that equipment and personnel
  • operate in a safe manner
  • Provides formal and informal feedback to workers to motivate and encourage
  • continuous improvement and cooperation between departments
  • Promotes environmental awareness in alignment with plant environmental goals
  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment. Ensures the
  • Maintenance department operates in the most cost-effective manner to meet department and
  • plant goals.
  • Requisitions supply of spare parts
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in resolving work problems
  • Maintains daily time records in Kronos
  • Trains employees where appropriate, in procedures and process related to maintenance and
  • Safety
  • Confers with other supervisors and planners to coordinate activities of individual departments,
  • minimizing downtime and making efficient use of manpower and eliminate recurrent problems
  • Participates on the shared on-call rotation for supervisory staff (On-Call List).
  • Makes inspections of work completed by Millwrights to ensure work is properly handed over to operations
  • Manages SAP notifications related to jobs prepared and closing of jobs after completion of work
  • Evaluates cost reduction opportunities; introduces new preventative maintenance technology programs and ensures these programs meet manufacturers, company, and industry standards
  • Records and analyzes data to determine mechanical problems
  • Troubleshoots any equipment and/or machinery malfunctions to determine root cause(s) and develops corrective action plans to rectify the problems. Updates existing plant maintenance and preventative maintenance systems
  • Participate in preparation of annual budget preparation and adherence
  • Ensures the safety of subordinates through enforcing safe work practices and providing motivation and effective communication
  • Responsible for the execution of the approved work schedule
  • Responds to and completes emergency work
  • Supervises and directs maintenance contractors working on the plant site as required
  • Ensures quality work by field verification
  • Ensures maintenance work orders are completed as per VCME policies with Millwright's comments and completed on a timely basis.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises the maintenance Millwrights in the Maintenance Department. Carries out

supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; disciplining employees;

addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:
  • College diploma, university degree or equivalent in related field, plus three to five years related
  • experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 433A Trade certificate is considered an asset
  • Experience working and supervising in a union environment
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP, Kronos, and Basic Excel Spreadsheet software and
  • Word Processing software and Outlook.
  • Strong Communication skills
