TOMRA, an international recycling company is looking to fill the role of Maintenance Supervisor at our Rotterdam, NY facility.

The Maintenance Supervisor leads local maintenance team activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely operation of facility equipment, machinery, and building systems. This role prioritizes preventive and corrective maintenance, responds to emergency repairs, manages parts inventory, and performs hands-on troubleshooting and repairs of industrial equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor also promotes a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company safety standards, conducting employee training, onboarding, and implementing processes to reduce workplace risks and equipment downtime

Pay: 80-85,000 Annually

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and work direction to local maintenance team members, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of assigned tasks.
    • Coordinate emergency repairs and corrective maintenance activities to minimize operational downtime.
    • Monitor work progress and ensure maintenance activities are completed according to established timelines and quality standards.
    • Prioritize maintenance requests and allocate resources based on facility needs and operational requirements in alignment with management direction.
  • Perform and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and building to include, but not limited to:
    • Conveyors (All types)
    • Power transmission systems (direct, belt, and chain driven)
    • Hydraulic balers
    • Air compressors and associated systems
    • Docks, doors, and dock levelers
  • Supervise and support local maintenance team in troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing mechanical components, including motors, gearboxes, chain drives, rollers, conveyor belts, and related equipment, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and maintenance standards.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of facility systems, including plumbing, lighting, and building infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation and prompt resolution of issues.
  • Ensure the safe and effective operation of facility equipment required to support maintenance activities, including:
    • Scrap Baling equipment
    • Forklift
    • Scissor/Articulating boom lift
    • Conveyors
    • Bulk Material Tippers
  • Manage maintenance inventory and spare parts programs, maintaining appropriate stock levels to support operational needs while minimizing downtime and controlling costs.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and asset longevity.
  • Implement a risk management process to identify hazards and put controls in place to eliminate or reduce HSE risk.
  • Any other tasks assigned by management.
  • Travel to other TOMRA sites as needed (BICS, Rotterdam, Vestal, etc.)
  • Collaborate with your direct reports on health and safety matters and issues.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling, or material
  • Must be able to safely and effectively use the following electrical test equipment: volt meters, ammeters, ohm meters and megohm meters both digital and analog.
  • Must be able to fabricate, repair, and install all types of guarding on material handling equipment at the plant.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and drawings.
  • Must be able to repair and replace failed lighting circuits and components.
  • handling environment, including experience leading or supervising maintenance personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor, and automated processing systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, VFDs, motor controls, and automation systems.
  • Proficiency in preventive and corrective maintenance planning, work order management, and CMMS systems.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions that improve equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and safe maintenance practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate maintenance activities across multiple shifts and operational teams.
  • Heavy lifting, heavy pulling, and heavy pushing are required. Must be able to use all types of hand tools and power tools both portable and stationary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years of experience leading or managing one or more employees.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the field of maintenance is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • A.S. Engineering Technology or equivalent or Vocational School training in a related field
    • Welding certification
    • Prior certifications as an operator of material handling equipment (forklifts, telehandlers, loaders, etc.)
    • Experience maintaining and repairing material handling equipment and powered industrial trucks (forklifts and loaders)
