job purpose:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising day-to-day maintenance operations, ensuring production, processing, and facility equipment are maintained in a safe, compliant, and reliable condition. This role leads maintenance personnel, prioritizes work orders and preventive maintenance, and partners with operations to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement.

responsibilities:
  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate the daily activities of maintenance team members across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, planning, and parts room functions to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Ensure production, processing, and facility maintenance issues are addressed promptly with appropriate follow-through to minimize downtime and support operational continuity.
  • Maintain and oversee systems for tracking work orders, preventive maintenance, spare parts, inventories, purchasing, and maintenance history using the facility's maintenance management system.
  • Manage inventories of tools, parts, and supplies; order materials, equipment, and contract services in accordance with established purchasing and bidding procedures.
  • Solicit bids for outside contract work and schedule, supervise, and monitor contractors to ensure work is performed safely, on time, and to required standards.
  • Support hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, and development of maintenance employees; ensure staffing aligns with forecasted workloads and facility needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to employee coaching, corrective actions, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety standards, policies, and procedures, and support on-site safety meetings and compliance with OSHA, EPA, Workers' Compensation, and Hazard Communication requirements.
  • Maintain facility documentation including drawings and maps identifying utility cut-offs, hydrants, gas mains, and other critical safety information; ensure regulatory compliance related to electrical and instrumentation maintenance.

skills/qualifications required:
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and evolving environment, including managing competing priorities and ambiguity.
  • Strong working knowledge of facility and building infrastructure systems, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and utility systems.
  • Proficient in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order management, preventive maintenance tracking, and asset history.
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and familiarity with project management or scheduling software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply vendor manuals, technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Proven capability to support root cause analysis, equipment troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional partners and external contractors.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.

working conditions and physical requirements:
  • 12 hours sitting/standing/walking around the production floor
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs of materials
  • Reaching/bending requirements including climbing ladders or elevated areas
  • Hand dexterity for operating machinery or computer systems
  • Exposure to hazards (machinery noise, confined spaces, chemical handling, etc.)
  • Wearing PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and slip-resistant boots
  • Specific atmospheric conditions and environmental factors
  • Any other physical requirements including desk work, meetings, and data entry

food safety requirements:
  • Notify leadership of any repairs or adjustments that may affect product quality or food safety
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required
