Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Maintenance Reliability Engineer who will work closely with the Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our sheet steel mill. This position will focus primarily on identifying, designing, developing, and implementing equipment improvements that increase reliability, availability, maintainability, safety, and production performance. This role requires the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilites include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, maintainability, and overall performance.
  • Design and implement equipment modifications and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Lead improvement projects from concept development through design, installation, commissioning, and final implementation.
  • Define, monitor, and report reliability key performance indicators (KPIs).Develop and maintain equipment criticality rankings to prioritize maintenance and reliability efforts.
  • Partner with maintenance planners to develop, optimize, and audit preventive maintenance (PM) strategies using FMEA, RCM, and PM optimization methodologies.
  • Establish, manage, and continuously improve predictive maintenance (PdM) programs, including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil/lubrication analysis, and ultrasonic testing.
  • Own and manage the bad actor process by identifying recurring equipment issues based on downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) and develop engineered solutions to eliminate identified failure modes.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Operations teams to develop practical, field-driven reliability solutions.
  • Analyze equipment failure history and maintenance data to prioritize reliability and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop, track, and execute reliability improvement projects while measuring and reporting results against established objectives.


Nucor Steel West Virginia's greenfield project is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience in industrial maintenance, engineering, reliability, or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with maintenance technicians, operations personnel, engineers, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Experience with hydraulic, lubrication, rotating, and mechanical systems.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Industrial maintenance experience in the steel-making industry.
  • Experience with rolling mill equipment.
  • CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) or CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer).
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience leading cross-functional projects.
