Job Summary

The Surface Maintenance Planner/Scheduler supports the function of the plant maintenance group through planning, scheduling, ensuring part(s) availability, developing job plans, reviewing the preventative maintenance (PM) process, evaluating data, and participating in root cause analysis. The use of SAP is integral to the success of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • References equipment and technical information, including blueprints and specifications.
  • Updates work order status in CMMS, documents definitions and estimates in CMMS, and maintains data in CMMS.
  • Leads scheduled meetings, documents and distributes schedules, and provides conflict feedback to customers.
  • Reviews and requisitions materials needed and works with the storeroom personnel and those executing the work.
  • Audits the work order kitting process for accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Develops detailed work order packages, reviews backlog for related/redundant work orders, and closes work orders when necessary.
  • Tours work sites and reviews work with requestors.
  • Estimates skills, workforce, time, tools, special equipment, and materials needed. Develops BOM and work processes.
  • Evaluates documentation requirements (permits, drawings) and special equipment needs.
  • Helps control maintenance costs.
  • Impacts equipment uptime.
  • Prepares and issues daily work assignments to those under supervision.
  • Ensures contractor work is completed in accordance with safety and quality standards.
  • Backfills for the Maintenance Supervisor when absent.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Possesses an associate degree/diploma in a technical or business-related field.
  • Possesses journeyman craft knowledge (mechanical/electrical/construction preferred).
  • Possesses 3-5 years of experience in maintenance or construction.
  • Possesses a superior level of organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to engage and effectively interact with the hourly and supervisory workforce.
  • Demonstrates background knowledge of operating procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of MEWP.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of overtime procedures.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of MS Office, database applications, the internet, and purchasing programs.
  • Understands maintenance procedures and processes.
  • Understands, in detail, the plant maintenance planning and scheduling process.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately estimate workforce and time requirements to complete WO work.
  • Possesses knowledge of (some or all) electrical and controls, mechanical repairs, rigging, and job estimating.


The expected annual compensation for this position is $81,600 - $110,400. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skillset, or location.
