Summary

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor with National Park Service overseeing the maintenance, cleaning, repair, and preservation of built structures such as buildings, docks, and boardwalks. Facilities are located in Bartlett Cove, Gustavus, Yakutat, Dry Bay and Juneau, AK. This position is located in the Glacier Bay National Park preserve, in Gustavus, Alaska

State of Alaska (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau)(AK) Wage Area

WS-4947-09: $49.22 - $57.41 per hour.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise a building's maintenance shop.
  • Supervise a ground's maintenance crew.
  • Supervise a custodial services program.
  • Serve as a long term maintenance/construction project management.
  • Budgeting, Planning and Administration of a maintenance operation.

  • Commercial Driver's License is required: you may possess a current CDL or be willing and able to obtain within 12 months of your start date.
  • Commercial Driver's License requires a mandatory drug testing. You will not remain in employment status to this current position if a verified positive drug test is received.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.
  • A financial disclosure report will be required within 30 days of appointment. Employment and Financial Interest OGE-450.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 of pounds.


This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  • Ability To Lead Or Supervise as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749 with responsibility for developing, implementing, managing, and overseeing both long-term and daily operations for a park or similar maintenance facility. This includes supervising the repair and upkeep of facilities such as historic and non-historic buildings, housing units, utilities, roads, grounds, trails, fences, day-use areas, comfort stations, sign operations, and vehicle fleet maintenance.   • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.

Physical Demands: Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to fifty pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools.

Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. When working inside, worker is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature, and noise. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to bad weather. Often works in rain, mud and snow and cold temperatures. Icy, slippery conditions are normal for six months of the year.
