OverviewThe Maintenance Manager plays a critical role in leading maintenance operations and supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of plant equipment and infrastructure. This position works closely with multiple departments, as equipment repairs, installations, and maintenance activities may affect day-to-day plant operations. The role requires an innovative, big-picture mindset and the ability to coordinate across functions while minimizing operational disruption.
This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement within the maintenance department by developing, documenting, and implementing maintenance procedures, best practices, and operational processes. The Maintenance Manager also provides maintenance expertise in support of site projects, change management initiatives, and the development and execution of MI/PM programs for new equipment.
Responsibilities - Lead maintenance operations related to equipment repairs, installations, and ongoing plant support
- Define the scopes of work for complex maintenance activities involving multiple disciplines, both on-site and off-site
- Hire, develop, supervise, and recognize maintenance personnel
- Review and approve the technical feasibility of design concepts and technologies involving multiple areas of expertise
- Establish maintenance policies, procedures, and operating standards for the department
- Communicate proactively with plant departments to coordinate maintenance work and reduce operational disruption
- Develop maintenance manuals and documentation for production processes and supporting equipment
- Develop expertise in manufacturing equipment specific to the chemicals used on-site
- Create and implement maintenance procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and training materials
- Participate in Process Hazard Reviews and support related action items
- Drive plan for continuous improvement in maintenance scheduling processes and work execution.
- Investigate operational upsets and maintenance-related deviations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Support continuous improvement of workforce technical skills, operating knowledge, and overall work environment
- Manage departmental budgets and track maintenance-related costs
- Support site projects and change management initiatives as needed
- Work extended hours when necessary, including weekends, extended shifts, and short-notice coverage
- Organize the team to provide after-hours support when necessary, including weekends, extended shifts, and short-notice coverage.
QualificationsEDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree - B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ Years - A minimum of seven years maintenance supervisory experience is required.
- 5+ Years - A minimum of fifteen years combined, successful and progressive process, project and maintenance engineering experience required in the chemical manufacturing industry.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills including an orientation to team development.
- Strong orientation to team development with demonstrated experience in technical initiatives and problem solving.
- Ability to understand mechanical equipment and chemical manufacturing processes.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Experience in dealing with senior level management.
- Microsoft Office skills at the intermediate to advanced level.
- ERP experience required and SAP experience preferred.
- Ability to extract and analyze work order and maintenance data from ERP systems to identify opportunities to improve plant reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
- The ability to participate effectively in business strategic planning and arrive at sound decisions designed to produce effective results.
